The 149 and Le Grande

I have owned three Mont Blanc pens, two Le Grande designs and a 149. They were all undoubtedly genuine. They all suffer from the same problem, the ink flow is unreliable and intermittent. This is not a problem of "breaking in" these pens. Although they look and feel great, they write terribly.
I cannot believe that I have merely been very unlucky in acquiring three faulty pens in a row, nor that there is something in my writing style that disagrees with these pens. There is a serious problem with quality regarding the Mont Blanc variety. A great disappointment. I really wanted to like these pens.

RE: RE: The 149 and Le Grande

I have 4 MBs and they are all fabulous:

147 Traveller (c/c filler) modern, medium nib - too big for me, but is a great pen anyway.

144 modern, broad nib - simply a fantastic writer and lovely to use.

144 from the 1980s - interestingly, this could be a fake because the trim is appalling. BUT it has a butter smooth, medium left oblique nib. I would have sent it back if it wasn't for the nib. Is the nib genuine? Don't know.

Classique Rollerball - outstanding note-taker in every respect. Love it.

I don't understand this argument about MBs. All makes will produce the odd 'duffer', which is unfortunate. It's a bit like the restaurant argument: it's quite right and proper to complain bitterly if you're paying a lot for a meal at a renowned establishment - but at MacDonalds (yeuch!) you'd be less inclined to make a fuss if the meal wasn't up to scratch. Perhaps this is why one hears more moans about duff $300 MBs than, say, $100 Parkers!
