Marriage and Age

Let me first say that, Kelvin, you are quite a unique and interesting fellow, along with this scientific poll. Secondly marriage is always an interesting issue to discuss, and within the framework of Liza's and Brian's worldview, their engagement and hopefully future marriage is quite justified in their worldview. Who are we to say that they aren't meant for each other, or they aren't soulmates, or who are we to say that they are to young. Isn't everything including age relative, marriage has never been an absolute concept.
In the Western world, religious teachings indicate the desirability of marriage before sex. But what about cultures that beleive people should have sex before they get married, to try out the goods or figure out if you are good for one another. Is this practice wrong? Or better yet, as a broad question, if any two people are having sex before marriage in the American culture (within a religious context), should people frowned upon an engagment, or would we encourage the engagement as a good decision, even if the two people are very young (lets say 18 years old). I think we would within a "western" or even "Christian" society. The Trobriander culture, the Mormorns, the Nuer, the Tiwi, the Basserians, just to name a few are all cultures with totally different views and practices on marriage. One of these cultures start their children having sex from about the age of
8 to make sure they find the right husband/wife. Are they wrong for doing that? Are our ideas about age, sex, and marriage right? Age and marriage means some many things to so many people, instead of focusing on who should or shouldn't get married or engaged, we should just take the time to simply support one another. When things work out, as friends we are there for one another, and when they don't, we come closer together.
I guess the most important part about life is finding someone you truly care about and becoming a blessing to them. Happiness, in many ways, should be our goal in life, and if we are lucky enough, even a quarter of the way lucky enough to find that special someone to give happiness to and get happiness from, we should be overjoyed. Love is a powerful thing, and when a human gives all of themselves to another person, it is one of the most beautiful things in our universe. May we all believe in the power of friendship and love, whether it be basic affinity or marriage. Thanks for reading.
