stretching it?

I love and respect Haile. But going for Marathon at this late stage in his career is simply stretching it. I wish him success even though I am afraid he may not perform well.

RE: stretching it?

'late in his career'...Are you kidding me Wondimu? He is 28 years old. And even if we add the customary 2-3 years to his age, he comes out to 30-31. Historically, this has been shown to be the best age for marathon running. Only recently did we see runners in their early 20s competing in the marathon much less perform well.

And Haile knows this too. That's why London doesn't signify a move to the marathon...just a taste of it. He plans to move back down to the track 10,000m after London. Running the marathon at the Olympics in Athens is a real possibility.

I say he still has much running left in him. And if he loses in London this weekend, it won't be because he is in a 'late stage in his career' but because of the unforgiving nature of the marathon which makes it a tough race to adjust to.

Tariq:

Don't you think that his reputation may suffer if there is a disappointing performance this weekend? I am not sure why he is risking it. In fact the best option, in my humble opinion, is for him to reclaim his crown on 10,000 and retire.

He is an incredible athelete; but also a human. I am still rooting for him to win or at least get a decent time like 2hrs 10-15 minutes or so.

I was also disappointed that he did not do better. I think he's a star.No I dont think he was stretching it and wish him all the best for the future.
