Help me prove my dad wrong

Hi Keith

I'm 18 and
I've been having a heated debate with my 52 year old dad and he has these reasons why man couldn't have landed on the moon.

here are some questions that he asks:

1) Bearing in mind the technology of the 60's how did the astronauts transmit pictures and live footage from the moon to Earth without a transmitter the size of small house, and an aerial 20 foot high?

2) How did the astronauts ignite the rocket boosters to get of the moons surface as nothing can ignite in zero atmosphere?

3) Having sent an animal in to Orbit to test the effects of space flight, which was basically only just
out of the Earths atmosphere, how did they assume they could send Humans the distance to the moon without risking the lives of the astronauts?

4) My dad is no astronaut to say the least but he says the space suit is wrong! In order to tolorate zero atmosphere the suit would need to be like a decompression chamber. This can be verified by looking
at the more recent pictures of astronauts repairing the space station, they look like
Michelin Men. How can you explain this?

5) Lastly, If I had been to the moon and back, for the
rest of my life I would do nothing but talk about the experience. Why to the best of my knowledge especially
on english T.V there has never been any interviews with the astronauts or discussion about the moon? infact Neil appeared on a show once it was not a discussion about the moon but some silly quiz show. Why is this?

My dad wanted to add a statement:

I don't want to be a skeptic, I really want to believe it all took place but it all points to being a hoax, there must be one thing somebody could say which would verify it for good.

sorry if they sound like my questions. I assure you they are not. I've been trying to Convince my dad That man DID go to the moon. Tonight I answered most of his questions but now he keeps coming up with more.

I believe with all my heart that man did land on the moon, I really hope you can help me convince him.

thank you so much for your time.

RE: Help me prove my dad wrong

Hi Lee,
My answer to you is to not bother and stop wasting your time trying to convince your dad.
It is not possible to convince anyone who thinks it was all a hoax that it wasn't.
The reason it's not possible is because no matter how hard you try and explain things they can't understand because they lack basic common sense and knowledge. You can't, for instance, discuss science with a monkey.
When someone says something really daft, like "nothing can ignite in zero atmosphere" (God, give me strength!) you know you are dealing with someone who has such incredibly limited knowledge about the subject that you may as well explain the answer to your parrot, at least the parrot will be able to repeat it back correctly.
Don't bother, let him carry on believing it was a hoax because he will never understand why all the points he raised only go to show his amazing depth of ignorance on the matter.

RE: Help me prove my dad wrong

Ask Your dad how a heat exchange might work in a vacuum such as space. Than he will know what we don't.

t
That is how the astronauts staid cool!

RE: Help me prove my dad wrong

Hi Gary,

There really is no mystery concerning how heat exchange works in a vacuum, and I have explained in detail how the astronauts heat exchange units kept them cool under item 6 on the main page.
Try reading it, you might learn something interesting.

Keith

ps. If you have a scientific, fact based argument, that proves that heat exchange in a vacuum is impossible, please let us all know and I promise you that you will receive not only a Nobel Prize but everlasting fame and fortune.
Well?
