RE: why

I'll think you'll find Tony that hoax believers love to ask hundreds of stupid and pointless questions but do do not like to come up with any answers themselves, after all, how do you defend stupidity and ignorance?

RE: why

The only people who would have stood to gain from a hoax would be Nasa themselves (to keep their budget) or nasa + US gov to convince the Russians they could put weapons on the moon in the event of WWIII. So let's consider these,
The US at the very least could have faked the moonlandings by sending an unmanned probe to the moon with a load of pre-recorded voice tapes triggered from the ground, moon rocks could have been grabbed by a robot etc etc
so all those non-believers could have made a far better case. BUT It would have been easier to send a manned capsule to avoid many of the risks involved, indeed the amount of computing power required was not developed until the early 90's for such a fake mission to be possible - the only advanced computers with enough power in a small enough space in 1969
to go to the moon, return safely and bring back samples were human minds. Apollo 11 had about the same electromechanical computational power as a washing machine! Any robot capable of lifting a 20lb chunk of rock and placing it into the capsule would have required far more resource than the life support system to support the astronauts. What I'd like see the moon hoax believers produce is a single photograph of a set or a receipt for some studio lights- THey have not got any - there are none, Elvis is dead, there are human footprints on the moon.
