what do you get out of proving hoaxes to others?

i know that those people who sell the books would try to convince people so that said people would buy the books, thus the authors would profit from it. but what i'm asking is: why do all those other hoax believers try to prove their point with such...gusto...when they won't benefit from it?

Oh it's cos their 'daft' I always thought it was because after they bought the goods they couldn't bear to tell others how they wasted their money.
