Posted By: Rodney C. Posted On: May 1, 2002 Views: 202 | Is is a poll with HARD CHOICES I think that this a poll that to make your choice in very hard indeed. Even the question poses a complexity of its own. "...According to your taste?" includes and excludes too many things. Just from looking at the list I would like to vote for "Nessun Dorma", and Pavarotti comes to mind... no matter what his current circus-state of mind is... I love the diction and feeling with which Pavarotti sings it. The power of a Corelli singing "Di quella pira" or the emotion of a Di Stefano in the same aria, pushed me to vote for it... even though that high C was not in the original score, when I do not hear it, I feel that something is missing. "Una Furtiva Lagrima" recalls Gedda's perfection and carefully placed notes, and brings and air of nostalgic loss and moves all within. Volpi performing "A te o Cara" is a most tentative offert to spend the vote. And of course, "La Donna e mobile", favortie aria of the "Three Freaks in Concert"... is a funny little piece, but immortal nevertheless. Those are just to mention a few... I think we are going to see the votes divided more evenly than last poll... And I still do not see why "Ecco Ridente" was not included..." thanks. |
