Idea for the NEXT poll

Foremost, I must thank Jay, since I think I have never done so, for having a website such as this. I myself am the editor of a religious website and thus, I understand the time-taxing and energy-consuming dedication that a website such as this requieres. This website is a true inspiration and a guiding light to those of us too young to have enjoyed the times of the "Operatic Titans", but lucky enough to have such people as Jay and Dr. Fragala, that are willing to pass on the legacy.
Thanks

This poll is doing great, as the immortal arias rise to the heights, while the not so immortal ones settle confortably in below.

I think that one of the future poll, since our last one was of Mostly Italian Tenors, should deal with the Tenors from Easter Europe, such as Gedda, Jerusalem, Wunderlich and many others... It would give us a bit of "Wagnerian" flavor and who knows who will come out in first if we exclude the Latin Tenors (Italians & Spaniards).
I think it would be a very interesting, if nothing else, experiment.

Again, thank you for this website... I, as hundreds of others, look foward every day to see whats new.
:-)

RE: Idea for the NEXT poll

Thank you for sincere and acclaiming words towards Grandi Tenori.com site and its worth to all people, young and old, who (like me) revel in the "Titans", quoting you, of the world of opera. I wrote on the stylistic Gedda and great German Wunderlich in Tenor Watch dated 14/3/2002. I never dwelt at length on the fascinating Peruvian tenor Luigi Alva, the role model of Mozart, Rossini, some Donizetti, Bellini and even Verdi (Traviata and Falstaff). I am sure that Jay will take serious notice of your idea for a future poll.

RE: Idea for the NEXT poll

Dear Rodney C.,

Your idea for a future poll sounds very interesting. Even excluding latin tenors (Italians & Spaniards), such poll would show us a very hard competition for first place. Names like the great danish tenor Helge Roswaenge are coming right now to my mind. Roswaenge is in my opinion one of the very greatest tenors of the XX Century! Jussi Bjoerling (Already listed in the last poll), Fritz Wunderlich, Wolfgang Windgassen, Peter Anders, Nicolai Gedda, Richard Tauber, and many others come also to mind. I have a question! Does the exclusion of Italian & Spaniards tenors leave an opportunity to English & French speaking tenors??? Three great tenors come to my mind. The great Canadian Jon Vickers, The american Richard Crooks (Very highly underated), and the french Escalais. Rodney as you can see there are a lot of great tenors that fit your idea for a future poll. Once again it would be a very hard competition for the winning position!

RE: Idea for the NEXT poll

First of all, many thanks for the support and the nice compliments.

Regarding future polls (I hope there will be many) I think you have a sound idea: Do a survey on the preferences on the non-Italian (non-Latin tenors). But what's really emerging to me right now would be trading on the results of the current poll and ask: "Which tenor would you prefer in this aria?"

There are 6 days left...

Jay

RE: Idea for the NEXT poll

I think it is a great idea.
Please also consider for future polls the topic of which has sang better certain aria (i.e. who is the best interpreter of E luce or Celeste Aida). Most of the popular tenors would try to sing all sorts of roles not taking into consideration if it is an aria for a dramatic or a lyric tenor.
You certain tenor is associated with a given aria because his voice fits perfectly the role or the vocal requirements of the aria.
Thank you
Regards,
Juan Carlos Adame
