Never-ending rotations?

Our Earth rotates...and it also rotates around the sun...So does the Sun rotate around something even greater than we can see or imagine? And does that rotate around something else and so on...Kinda crazy.

P.S.- (Fact) There are more people alive right now than there are dead people EVER!...That is inspiring isn't it? Think of all the great inventors and genius' that are dead now. That means, by chance, that there are plenty of people alive today who will become our new Einsteins and Avagadro's. This shows that our world will progress not only a great amount, but also more rapidly, because of the growing population and all. Cool HUH!

double P.S. - (Brainteaser) If you are in a race and you run *only past the guy in second place, then what place are you now currently in? Did you guess 1st? YOUR WRONG!...Your in second...Think about it.

The sun rotates around our galaxy, The Milky Way, as does everything in our galaxy,
Our galaxy is part of local group of galaxies, which is part of a cluster of galaxies, which is part of a super cluster....... and so on.

It's enough to make your head spin.

RE: Never-ending rotations?

So the center of our galaxy, The Milky Way, is not the Sun as most people think. In fact, I guess your saying there is no center to our galaxy at all? Thats hard to think about and visualize. Can you give an example of what this would look like. A visual or an analogy would help.

RE: Never-ending rotations?

Yes, that helps a lot. Thanks for the image. It really puts in perspective just how small, we as humans, really are.

RE: Never-ending rotations?

Now I don't know much about Einstein and his theories or laws on relativity, but heres a question thatl maybe stump ya. If you were on a plane and that plane was going extrmely fast. Almost the speed of light. Also pretend that the plane is huge and can allow for a plane to be flying inside it. Yes thats how big it is. So now this plane inside of the bigger plane is going almost as fast as the speed of light. Wouldn't the combined speeds of these two planes combine to be going faster than the speed of light?

RE: Never-ending rotations?

No, the combined speed cannot exceed the speed of light.
The faster an object moves the slower time goes.
If you read my article on the subject it may make it a little clearer.
On the other hand it may make it worse!

RE: Never-ending rotations?

Yes...as keith has pointed out already, even if two light beams are travelling towards each other, common sense would say they are travelling towards each other at exactly twice the speed of light but that is not the case, they would still only be travelling at the speed of light.
