| Posted By: Megabrain Posted On: Sep 19, 2006 Views: 3421 | BIG HOAX! The big bang is simply NOT PROVEN. IF I had to choose between a singularity and a deity I'd have to think long and hard. The background radiation is not neccessarily supportive of the big bang. Some time ago Voyager 1 sent back to earth a curious radio signal. It essentially detected this as coming from outside the solar system. After a while some smart arse spotted that it corresponded to a solar flare which had happened some 400 days earlier. Voyager had returned a similar pattern about 200 days beforebut much stronger. THe upshot was that the solar flare had passed Voyager, continued going for around 100 more days then 'bounced' off of something and come back. From this, the edge of the heliosphere was determined. What was the temperature of this signal - I have not as yet been able to discover but it would be very very low. Suppose there is always this background reflection from the heliopause? - more work to be done The sun emits radiation almost uniformly in every direction, the solar radiation eventually collides with the heliopause causing all sorts of effects as described in the article. Consider yourself looking up at the stars from the top of a city block, You see a faint yellow glow all around. THis glow is of course light pollution. You need to move outside the city to see the true sky, you need to move outside the heliopause to see the true background radiation. Another thing you might like to know is, that you simply cannot tell how far a radio signal has come, from a single observation point. Compared to the size of the universe the entire solar disk is just a single point. The background radiaton signal does not [in my opinion] contain enough data to prove beyond doubt that it is extra-solar. --- Just note the 600KM/S in the following article. The indication of the above image is that the local group of galaxies, to which the Earth belongs, is moving at about 600 km/s with respect to the background radiation. It is not know why the Earth is moving with such a high velocity relative to the background radiation. http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr162/lect/cosmology/cbr.html Then look at the solar wind. Velocity: 596 km/sec http://www.ips.gov.au/Solar/1/4 The assumption is that since the Universe (NOT SPACE) is expanding into the future it must contract when looking back - No problem. That DOES NOT meanit started from a singularity - it means only that it was smaller in the past! Hawking radiation is CRAP - it cannot be proved or disproved anless we can wait around for some 10^70 seconds The universe is estimated to be around 5.0 *10^17 seconds (Latest figure puts the 'big bang' 17550Million yrs. Don't argue you will lose! Ever heard of the Malteaser theory? Where there is more than 1 theory there is a false theory. Where there is a false theory, any other theory is at least as valid. |

Space is the universe. You also say "Where there is a false theory, any other theory is at least as valid." So my mate's theory that the Big Bang was started when the Good Fairy waved her magic wand is as good as any other cosmological model? Very strange arguments you use! The first link you give is a very good site that heavily supports the BB theory and how the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation confirms the theory. The fact that it mentions we do not know why the Earth is moving at that speed through the CMBR is not an argument against it, the whole site is if fact FOR it. Your arguments against the Big Bang theory are rather strange, and I can't make sense out of what you are trying to say. To make it more simple could you please give just one good reason why you think the BB theory is wrong and I will do my best to answer that point. Maybe then we can then take it from there, but I will have to wait and see... |

Suppose I show you two photos of an explosion 10 and 15 milliseconds afterwards - if you apply the samy logic of the big bang then have to believe the explosion was once a singularity. I do NOT question the expanding universe BUT that it started from a singularity and the 'echoes' are still out there. |

The universe is expanding so in the past it must have been smaller. The only explanation for the expansion is that it started from a singularity. There is no means of explaining how it could have started expanding from a smaller universe, say half its present size. If you think you can explain it any way other than a singularity then go ahead. What's wrong with a singularity anyway, it makes perfect sense? 2) I don't see why you have a problem with the 'echoes' still being detectable. All that Big Bang radiation isn't simply going to disappear, just cool down, and that is what they have found. It was predicted years before it was found, and the observations match the predictions and confirm the theory. Why do you have a problem with that? On both these points you do not give any reason why you think they are wrong. As for the Good Fairy theory, words fail me. You are being silly. Do you want to be taken seriously or not? |

In cases like this where the poster starts off with a full scale attack that doesn't make any sense, then after an explanation or two fades away, you can almost hear the penny drop when they eventually realise they are wrong. This is one of the side effects of having so much information available on the internet, people will have a quick read up on a subject of which they clearly know very little, and think they know it all. Reading a thing is not at all the same as understanding it and this becomes very apparent when these people come along and make a posting attacking the basic principles of physics or cosmology. These are difficult subjects and take many years to grasp even the basics. There is nothing wrong in challenging long held beliefs, but a mature person would accept they were wrong and learn from it and go on to raise more pertinent points perhaps. Others just run away, which is a pity, they should continue the debate and learn from it. |

A wall full of certificates, A member of mensa. Astrophyisics though is not my field. I can tell you I have looked at some of the maths, heavy going even for a bright lad like me. Looks pretty good, almost every day another bit of supporting evidence crops up, it may not be the answer, but I can say at this point in time there is little against it, there is no credible alternative, and it is accepted as the most probable by pretty well all modern scientists in it's field. I am prepared to accept it for what it is, the origin of the universe. Unless anybody has any better ideas... Megabrain, You did a little research that's clear, and you thought about it, that's good too, but might I suggest if you have spare time, you might study maths, then you can review the evidence and, if you still think it's wrong, come back and tell me why. I like the site Keith, you seem to have a knack of explaining in lay terms, but I can't spend too much time here far too busy. |

HI, I out rank you all the big bang was a result of small energy strings forming over a long period of time, they accumulated to a point where they reached critical mass and bang! a bloody big cosmic explosion! Only a tiny portion of the strings that existed formed this bang, the rest are still out there and called dark matter and dark energy. Everything is made of string from the universe right down to my underpants. |
