Say WHat?

Just clicking through the site and noticed a strange thing about the universe. It's fact that we are all made up of trillions of atoms, and that these atoms make up the Earth as well as everything around us. So when we die those same atoms still linger and are around as part of different objects. So at some point these atoms created us (came together and formed the human we call "I"). Therefore, if just by random these atoms came about and formed you and I, and everything around us then that brings about quite a theory. We can't control our own lives. We are just part of a system where atoms "do their buisness". We think we have choices and control of our own lives, but it's just the result of the randomness of atoms. It's so hard to explain, but makes so much sense to me.

If today I set out to help save poor people, then it's not by my choice. It's by the influence of the way I was raised, and the atoms that make up "me". Then we can go further to say that the people who influenced my life were influenced by others, and so on. I feel like we don't have any more choice, or control of our own lives as a star does as it collapses into a black hole.

In one of Keith's sections I read how it is valid to think that we are not alive, but the Earth is, and we are just the atoms that are part of the Earth "doing their thing" or cycle or whatever.

We have a fate, but not by a religious means. I believe our fate is just the actions of our atoms acting because of the atoms that influenced those atoms, which influenced those atoms, etc.,etc. Keith hopefully you can sort of understand what I'm trying to say.

Once you think of the world in the manner I have explained, it puts a whole different perspective on the way you look at everything. Such as your mom or dad. It's hard to see them as a loving person, and not just a body of atoms taking their course in the universe. That brings up another point about love. Recently I watched a movie where these two people's unstoppable love couldn't keep them apart. But then I thought "Love"? What is love other than a meaningless thought of a group of atoms in the form of a human. "Love" is again just a part of the atom's cycle of life (sort of speak). But anyway, I think you can catch my drift about this way of looking at life.

The question I now ask myself is are we lucky to be aware of ourselves as "humans"? Since we are just a cluster of atoms in a "process" are we lucky to be able to "feel"? Is it just a cruel joke? Think about it. What does it mean to "feel". Because of the way our atoms are arranged they can deliver signals to our atom body that allow us to feel. It's as if atoms are magical in different combinations.

OOOhhh boy. I can't think anymore.

I just hope someone can relate to what I'm talking about. Depending on whether the atoms that make up someone else are in the "right pattern" then I may get a response. Jeeze I've gone mad.

RE: Say WHat?

Sounds like your talking about cause and effect. Like we are all machines acting the way we do because of years and years and years of cause and effect. Interesting.

RE: Say WHat?

Cause and effect but mostly about perception and self perception. What are we and what do we make of our environment both as individuals and collectively? This to me is the whole crux of everything that matters. We are a collection of atoms, but not the same ones that we started out as - though much of what makes us "ourselves" prevails over our lives in our minds. No doubt there are countless academic definitions marking out the boundaries of mind and matter and self, but only "oneself" has the potential to know what one perceives.

i think what Johnny is implying is that we are a product(of a product of a product of a product)

everything about ourselves and what makes up our bodies isn't EVEN completely ours!

we have no more choice to be created than a sofa or a computer does...
