I believe in infinities.

Plank length and red shift are both observed phenominons, and both spawned theories.

As far as the red shift is concerned, the more powerful our telescopes get, the further we see. Were up to about 50 billion galaxies, each with about 100 billion stars, not including rogue solar systems that dont belong to galaxies at all. In fact Earth is pretty far away from the milky way itself. But not that far.

Has anyone questioned the redshift phenominon itself? What happens to a photon when after traveling for a billion years. Is it absorbed by matter and retransmitted losing its energ (energy=wavelength). Is there a very small amount of very cold matter in the middle of the galaxies creating the redshift. Does the bending of time (another theory) cause a redshift itself.

We could exist in a part of space where there is expansion going on, there could be another part of space 100 billion lightyears away where galaxies are flying into eachother (blueshift), or another area of space 100 billion lightyears away where half of the galaxies to the left are coming at an observer, and in another part of the sky, to the right they are flying away from the observer.

The redshift spawned this theory of a finite universe including the theory of big bang, but we are falling into the same trap of thinking the earth is the center of the universe, again.

RE: I believe in infinities.

Well! We don't know if infinities exist in reality or not. It's best leave the question to scientists to answer rather than jumping on conclusions like theists do.

RE: I believe in infinities.

I got this far into your post and gave up in despair.
"...not including rogue solar systems that dont belong to galaxies at all. In fact Earth is pretty far away from the milky way itself. But not that far."

I can't help but wonder what on earth made you think any of that makes sense?

Haha...I thought the same exact thing when I read about half of it. I didn't want to say anything because I thought maybe it was me that was just not comprehending it. But damn, that crap aint make no sense. LOL

RE: I believe in infinities.

HAHhahaha, yeah no star can possibly be exist between galaxies (rogue solar system, our solar system has a star).

*sarcasm off*

Between being called a Theist, or being brushed off, do any of you demagogues have anything to add? And infinity is used in math all the time, just as the concept of a zero dimensional dot, used in math all the time.

RE: I believe in infinities.

Bobbo,
Seems to me you think our solar system is a 'rogue' system that doesn't belong to any galaxy?

Have you not even studied this at school? Your ignorance on the subject is frightening.

Yes, we all KNOW that infinity exists in maths. I make that point at the start of my page on the topic of infinity.

Go away.

RE: I believe in infinities.

The universe is only finite in terms of matter.
To me the true nature of infinity in the universe is far beyond the collections of matter into the cold reaches of infinite nothing.
I want to stare into the abyss, then laugh.
