Posted By: Nick Posted On: May 15, 2007 Views: 1799 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite nothing at all, were all idiots, on the inside arent we? =================================================== Footnote from Keith: I hate bad grammar. Your 'were' should be 'we're' (we are), as written it means 'in the past', as in we were happy. Your 'arent' should be 'aren't' (are not), because as written it is meaningless. It probably seems a small and silly point to you, but lack of attention to detail is what causes errors and confusion. ================================================== |

Posted By: Keith Mayes Posted On: May 16, 2007 Views: 1792 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite Well yes, of course the Fibonacci sequence is endless, its numbers. |
Posted By: Nick Posted On: May 16, 2007 Views: 1787 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite in one of your posts, you asked for anything physical that is infinite. We're all giving examples (we're not were)aren't we? (aren't instead of arent) But none of them so far but mine is physical. I think i misspelled "Physical" but i got the grammer write! ^ | Just to **** you off keith lol jk jk |
Posted By: Keith Mayes Posted On: May 17, 2007 Views: 1783 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite I have not yet seen a single example of anything physical being infinite. Are you getting a bit mixed up again? |
Posted By: nick Posted On: May 19, 2007 Views: 1775 | RE: RE: i found one thing that is infinite numbers are physical |
Posted By: Keith Mayes Posted On: May 19, 2007 Views: 1773 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite Nick, I am almost afraid to ask, but why do you think numbers are physical? I dread to think how you will answer having had lots of previous experience talking to you. I don't even know why I am bothering, apart from being exceptionally bored tonight. Try and at least make it amusing, I would hate to think you meant it. |

Posted By: Charles Matthew Posted On: Sep 21, 2007 Views: 1668 | RE: RE: i found one thing that is infinite Numbers are tools of human understanding -not physical entities (unless you want to count the chemical and electrical signals in the brain in which our concepts reside). We use numbers to quantify things as concepts. For example, you see 2 rocks on the ground. You count one, and you count the other. There are clearly 2 rocks, but only as far as your limited, abstract conception of "rock" is concerned. The number "two" does not say anything objectively true about the collections of matter (which we have named "rocks") before you. Your brain recognizes certain patterns that are unchanging enough to deserve a label of some sort. Your brain can also count the number of those patterns, but the point is, it's still just your BRAIN and the patterns of signals looping through it. Evolution gave us perception, but there's nothing to suggest that it gave us OBJECTIVE perception. Numbers just happen to be particularly useful whether they say anything "true" about the world or not. They're concepts that enable quicker, more accurate decision making in a subjective world. At least, that's how I see it. |
Posted By: Keith Mayes Posted On: Sep 21, 2007 Views: 1666 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite Yes, numbers are abstract. We can use them to quantify real objects or imaginery objects. Numbers also exist in their own right in pure mathematics. Numbers however do not exist as physical objects, this much is obvious. |
Posted By: tom Posted On: Oct 25, 2007 Views: 1639 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite aren't lines infinite. definition of a line: A geometrical object that is straight, infinitely long and infinitely thin. :) |
Posted By: tom Posted On: Oct 25, 2007 Views: 1635 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite also if i had one hat and you had no hats then i would have infititley more hats than you. i forgot to say this afew mins ago. |
Posted By: Keith Mayes Posted On: Oct 25, 2007 Views: 1633 | RE: i found one thing that is infinite Check your maths, you would have one hat more than me. Hardly infinite is it? The 'infinite line' you refer to is a geometric abstraction, not a real line. Try to draw a line that is 'infinitely thin' and 'infinitely long'. You seem to be muddled as to what is real. |
