Religeon Should Not Be Abused

I agree that religeon is a very important part of some RPGs, Breath of Fire II is one of the best examples, but I find it offensive that so many games have religeons that are incredibly similar to Christianity. Many times, these religeons are made out to be fanatical, demon controlled, and a facade for a strike at the protagonist and his/her society. Being a Christian I find it insulting that in video games and the media, every Christian is made out to be a Bible pounding maniac who is going to bug every person that they possibly can to convert or else there is no chance for them to survive the afterlifee. I'll admit, there are people like that out in the world, but I can assure you that they are certainly among the minority in our population, just like every teenager is not a delinquent, and, to continue with stereotypes in order to further my point, every black person is not some gun toting, crack sniffing, hoodlum who wants nothing more than to steal and screw.

RE: Religeon Should Not Be Abused

I guess the reason I don't take offense at gaming's (mainly Square and Capcom) handle on religion is because I really don't have one, but I can see the point one would make here. It does seem that religion gets a bad rap in games, but if you look at it a different way, it isn't so bad. Maybe see these games as a satire or a joke. Making fun of those people who claim to be religious and pious, but are really backstabbing and conniving. That sort of thing. I'm sure, though, that the Japanese community does get that impression from the things that happen over here, ne? Anyway, try to look at religion in games as a sort of moral message (because isn't that what religion is to begin with?). And remember that it isn't always bad. Billy in Xenogears, for example, loses his faith, but finds himself again and helps save the world! Can't be all bad, ne?^^

RE: Religeon Should Not Be Abused

I think its true what your saying but not true that all the games represet christianity, very few of the games ive played have anythin to do with christianity or are similar in the religion used.
