Posted By: Cless Alvein Posted On: May 20, 2002 Views: 488 | RE: I like swords Squall's Gunblade is in a futuristic setting, though. It's like a two-in-one with the best of Guns and Swords :P The only problem with that is that Squall's wearing a leather jacket, and enemy soldiers are raking him with submachine guns, and he takes... 1/45 of his total health. And then he slices them once and the enemy soldiers, protected by vests, boots and assorted plating, die right away. Just doesn't make sense :P |

Posted By: yo Posted On: May 20, 2002 Views: 478 | RE: RE: I like swords I like swords, and I like the alternate final fatasy ish worlds. It's like a future and midevil combined for you rpg simple tons |
Posted By: Unknown Posted On: May 21, 2002 Views: 458 | RE: I like swords The best setting would happen to be one in an alternate universe that is in a midevil/futuristic setting where something, besides you, is out of place in the universe. You wield a sword in the game, but some unique cool thing. |
Posted By: The Pill Posted On: May 21, 2002 Views: 449 | RE: RE: I like swords Swords and sorcery, what more could you ask. Though Final Fantasy VII (my personal favorite) is set in a more technological society, with cars, planes, guns and more, a great number of some of the best RPGs have been set in the medieval style. What better argument is there? |
Posted By: Cecil Posted On: May 21, 2002 Views: 444 | RE: I like swords The setting in FF4 is the best! I mean you have your "Lali-Ho" dwarfs, town of magicians, the freaking moon, a "whale" ship, castles, and so on and so forth. I can't think of any game with better setting, although the other games still are really cool... |
Posted By: Deedly Posted On: May 22, 2002 Views: 436 | RE: I like swords in futuristic games there is a tendency toward less types of equipment, less variety between characters (in ff8 just about the only difference was the picture and the limit break), and overall suckiness also there is a serious lack of aaccuracy in the damage of guns, and why the hell would somebody use swords? have you ever seen the scene in indiana jones where the wierd guy is in the street near him and he draws a sword and swings it around showing his incredible skill, then he gets shot before he even swings at him that was just plain funny Guns should make your character's incredible strength obsolete, but they didnt want that to happen, so they made guns whimpy Medieval settings have more magic, more variety in characters, more weapons and armor, more items, better plot, and are just plain cool because I like medieval weapons :) also there is the issue of different races, which are almost nonexistant in futuristic games but this post is long enough already so I wont go into it |

Posted By: ClessNess Posted On: May 23, 2002 Views: 423 | RE: I like swords I prefer a mix of medeavil and futuristic. Star Ocean is an excellent example of this. And we all know how good Star OCean is. |
