| Posted By: Snake Eyez Posted On: Oct 22, 2003 Views: 584 | Past vs. Present I think in some aspects it's kind of cool to watch the world of Final Fantasy evolve to gradually become more futuristic, but as that happens, the entire genre seems to lose a bit of its personality each time. The sense of carefree adventure outlined by a mild sense of urgency present in the older games is what made the Final Fantasy series so popular to begin with. As the world evolves and includes big cities, guns, advanced technology, and even spaceships, FF is slowly cut off from its roots. That's one of the reasons why I liked FF 9 so much; Squaresoft finally got the bright idea to stay away from the futuristic theme for a while and return to the game's origins. I, for one, think FF should avoid storylines involving the Future - they just aren't as good as games taking place in a Past environment. |
