Today's Fans Are The REAL Fools

Prior to the 1994 strike, I was a rabid lifelong Red Sox/baseball fan. Like so many of you, I lived and breathed the game. On average, I would attend 30 to 40 games a year. Each morning, I would devour the box scores in my newspaper playing each game in my head.

But that all changed after the 1994 strike. Enough was enough.

In the 8 years since that strike, I have attended ONE major league game. I might watrch a couple of innings of the World Series. I certainly have no interest in seeing a regular season game. I don't even bother reading baseball related articles when my Sports Illustrated comes each week.

And guess what..? I don't miss the game at all.

Out of curiousity, I looked at some box score attendance figures this morning. Despite the fact that the greedy players and owners are once again threatening to strike again, there were tens of thousands of people still willing to fork over hard earned money to players and organizations who have demonstrated time and time again that they don't give a **** about the fans.

The players and owners may be greedy bastards, but they're smart, rich greedy bastards.

The ones who are still willing to fork over money to see watch .240 hitters whining about only making $5.0 million a year are the real idiots.

RE: Today's Fans Are The REAL Fools

Right on Mark.

But the real sad part is most people are so complicent, they accept anything regardless of right or wrong.

If a law was passed tomorrow stating that all baseball players are paid $10 million a year and the taxpayers are going to pay for it, very damn few would complain. And the liberal mainstream media would be more than happy to print articles supporting it.

People seem to think that the players are getting screwed. How is a man getting paid 2+ million a year to chase a ball around a field "getting screwed". Those "evil owners" screw the players.

What kind of BS is that? Screw the owners, players, and any dumb ass that actually believes the players are getting screwed.

I contend that ANYONE in good physical shape can be trained to be a baseball player and perform the same level or exceed any pro-player today. Talent has sweet F'A' to do with ability.

Sports Illustrated, and sports pages, and most sports anchors like Jim Rome (total jackass by the way, his problem is he is full of himself) confuse "talent" with "ability" (and "reality" and "fantasy") on a daily basis. Talent is looking good for the camera, ability is actually performing.

I hope that baseball goes under and never comes back so they tear minute maid park down for a new parking garage. Downtown houston could sure use it.

RE: Today's Fans Are The REAL Fools

Thats what I have been sayin all along Mark! The attendance is still about the same at all the parks. It absolutely amazes me that people could knowingly give money to these people with everything that is going on. These people are complete idiots and the baseball fraternity is just laughing at them. I wish I had the money and the time (but since I have a real job for the government I have neither) to let the public know what they are doing is only helping the greedy players and owners get even more greedy. Quit going to the games people!!

RE: Today's Fans Are The REAL Fools

The really sad part about this issue is the fact that these idiots who keep paying to see players who have demonstrated time and time again that they couldn't care less about the fans probably don't even visit great web sites like this.

The fans who are still going to major league ballparks and laying out money just don't get it. They don't understand that collectively, we have the power and the ability to send both the players and the owners a message that they HAVE to listen to. Could you imagine what would happen if every major league ballpark resembled the attendance of a Florida Marlins or Montreal Expos game.

But it won't happen - because there are too many stupid people out who, I guess, enjoy being treated like dirt.
