If they win, they get a major portion of the gate and if they lose, they get considerably less. Nobody complains about Tiger or Venus making mega-bucks because they have to stay on the top of their game to EARN it! A player in the World Series would be worth a lot more than a player on a last place team. Maybe then players would be more TEAM PLAYERS than the "Me, Me, Me" that is prevelant in the game nowadays |

I think the pay should all be incentive based. Basically, that's how the average worker gets paid. You don't perform, you get fired. If you're a pitcher, your salary is base on your K's, era and wins (or saves if you're a reliever). If you're a fielder, your salary is base on errors made and OB percentage. The hell with home runs and the phoney batting average. Of course, that wouldn't work either. They'd figure out a way to doctor the stats. |

There is no way, the players are WAY too greedy for any half way reasonable system to work. I would love to see the players paid for their production like most Americans and even most NFLers. But even the NFL players (like E. James) admits that they are way more selfish with incentive laiden contracts. Could you imagine if a contact was made that gave a player a big bonus for hitting homeruns, we would have guys swinging for the fences even more than we do now. A sacrifice bunt HA, they would laugh in the face of their coach! Baseball just needs to be broken down and built back up with different players who know their place in the game! |

If the players don't want a luxury tax, they're certainly not going to accept performance based pay. Baseball players are different than everyone else, they need special treatment. pampering, etc..lol. The government and the arbitrators don't help the situation. Our elected officials have no problem with Kmart closing stores, but not baseball teams, why they get more press coverage on sports than for laborers. How about the press...since they cover the players, not the owners or the fans, they seem to side with there bread and butter. Let's face it, if there's a long strike we won't need basball tonight. Since I really won't them to go on striek, I know they'll settle late tonight, the owners will cave, the press will make it out as some super spectiacl, the fans, even thought they have been screwed and held captive, will be back. It's a never ending vicious circle. |
