Looking Younger

Might we look younger because we are more in tune with our bodies and take steps to keep them healthy?
Or, is it that it is a "survival" tactic in order to attract our own?
Does a str8 guy let himself go because once married he no longer has to "keep" his wife through physical attraction, but only through a financial connection?
Do gays once connected in a full comittment keep their "youth", or do they also "age" the same as str8's?
These are the questions that I think go along with this poll. There are many factors that contribute to this trait other than something genetic, I believe.

RE: Looking Younger

I am not thinking here about "keeping in shape". I am thinking of the inexorable process of ageing. While they seem similar, they are different.

RE: Looking Younger

I'm nowhere near in "shape" but I think I look younger (face only) than many of my contemporaries. This could be because I've put on weight and don't show wrinkles, or because I have never smoked. The smokers among my classmates are all shriveled, have white hair and trouble breathing :-(

RE: Looking Younger

My opinion is that in the environment where I live, the typical straight guy is not really interested in looks, etc., they would rather rough it out next to a dam, braai or what ever the circumstances, jokes around with buddies with a couple of beers going around. I find with many of my gay friends, we are more intune with our feminine sides, which I think contributes that gay men in general look younger, as the first poster mentioned, health & well being, more than financial well being, and also for that purpose of looking good to find ourselves attractive to the same sex. Once committed, I don't think it stops there, as very few relationships last more than 2 years at most, so the cycle starts over again. That is how I see it, I may be wrong.

RE: Looking Younger

Hi Tim and everybody. I did not vote because I did not find a category for myself. I do seem to be younger looking than my contemporaries but I always have. I looked 14 when I was 20. My parents both looked young all their lives (except when chemo aged Dad, but you would expect that). My mom is 79 and looks about 72 or younger. I don't think gay or str8 has much to do with aging. I have a friend, the first outwardly gay I ever knew, that looks like he is 60 but he is only about 55. And he is a hairdresser, very much into the looks and health scene. I have seen plenty of gays that looked as old as str8s and plenty of str8s that looked as young as gays (heheh, weird sentence). I think lifestyle, like smoking, drinking and drugs, as well as stress make more difference than orientation. And genetics has most to do with the inexorable aging process than anything else if all other things are equal. Just my observation. Science could prove me right or wrong. But an interesting question, Tim!

RE: Looking Younger

I think we look younger because we have much less stress in our lives.
