Take FFT for instance

I don't mind long complex storylines. Sometimes I don't care for them, but otherwise I liek 'em.

Take Final Fantasy Tatics for instance. I could've done without the storyline. I don't want or care to know why I'm raising up some soliders to beat the opposition senseless with a whole helluva lotta spells and abilitys and such on. The gameplay was fun on itself. But FFT's story was interesting and I had to play it 2 times through just to make sense of it and go into more detail about what I did, although I would've been just as happy without it (BTW I laughed my ass off at the end of FFT, I won't spoil it for you though)

Also, take Ogre Battle 64. The general rule is to liberate this town, keep the enemy away from that town, kill these people, and advance. The story doesn't add or take away from the game play, but the story itself is great too. Shoot, I wish I could have a novel (graphic novel if I'm peckish) just on OB64.

In general, I feel that complex storylines are good, but we could do without them sometimes.

Complex GAMEPLAY on the other hand is another can of worms.....which I'll rant on about in another poll or so.

RE: Take FFT for instance

Xenogears and FF7 can be a good example too. I like complex stories because there somethign new. Take Shadow Hearts for the PS2 for instance, great battle system, a couple of memorable characters, and a boring storyline. It was nice to play something that was set in 1906 or something. It brought a unique feel to the game, but the storyline was so plain and...BORING! The only good part was the Mysterious Voice controlling Yuri, I tell ya I wasn't expecting THAT! Anyway, down to the point, complex games are good and intriguing as long as they make sense and keep the gamer interested.
