Square's legacy

I think Square are going to be here for many years yet, but only if they change the road they are following. Here's why:

I think that Square really lost sight of what final fantasy was about when they made final fantasy 8 and to a lesser extent 9. They are both lower-rate RPGs with a storyline that I would compare to the likes of Mario RPG and Sonic Adventure. I believe that they concentrated mostly on the graphics of those two games, and it really made them bad. they didnt even have the replayability of alot of other RPGs. I've beat FF7 and Lufia 2 more times than I can count and I'm still playing them with as much enthusiasm as when I first bought them.

I think that what's happened is that when Square were making final fantasy 1-6 they concentrated mainly on the storyline and things like that because the developers of FF felt they should be like that. Now-a-days lots of people are playing Shoot-em-ups with absolutely no story-lines and boring monotomous shooting that only concentrate on graphics, and I think that Square believed that that's what people wanted now, games with no story-lines and just graphics. That is so not true.

People play RPGs to escape from the real world, and I think people have to do that now, more than ever (I'm not going to go into the discussion of how bad the world is today) but they cannot do that without storylines or any emphasis on characters. I believe that the only reason FF8 and 9 sold at all was because they were FFs.

Now you're all probably thinking well what about FFX? well, what about it? yes it has got quite a good storyline, but Square are a long way from getting back to thier old standards.

Square must make FF11 and 12 more like the classics and less like FF8 or I don't think 13 will sell at all and one of the greatest gaming series of all time will stop.

RE: Square's legacy

i think final fantasy is losing it's originality.
the best ff in all times is the FFVI beacuse the character involvment is so big that i almost became friends with terra and crew.
the FF series was medieval and now is futuristic.
that suxxxx. the game with swords mages classes jobs and stuffs were reeealy much cooler than these machineguns(ffVII) and cars motorcycles and stuff (ffVIII). ffIX was really good because it became an final fantasy again. the ships could fly, the black mages were back and all that castle, swords, magic stuff
i think they sould get the 12th final fantasy based on the ffV fights, ffVI history and secrets, ffIX worlds and ffX grafix and lovestory

I never wrote but since the subject is final fantasy......
