Posted By: Elok Posted On: Jan 20, 2003 Views: 429 | Huh? Well, I haven't played the DW series past its NES "glory," but those first four were just iredeemably lame. If the series is any good now it's a spectacular improvement. FF has had its utter failures(2 comes to mind), but it started out with a good original. And yes, I know DW came first, but even compensating for the time it came out in...gah! Hideously clunky controls, boring battles. Interesting as a chunk of video game nostalgia but nothing genuinely fun. Everything I've read about the continuing series indicates streamlined controls but little better. That's why I haven't used good money buying the new ones. No real, interesting innovation since number 3, and the controls shot that one to hell. Elok |

Posted By: Elok Posted On: Jan 21, 2003 Views: 403 | RE: Umm, No I was referring to FF2 for the NES, which just plain sucked. FF4 was a solid game in the U.S. and a very good one overseas, in its non-dumbed-down form. And maybe DW itself was "great" when it came out(debatable; the graphics were even below NES standards, the battles tedious, the controls a nightmare), but, aside from the classes in 3, the series did nothing innovative as time went by. Until this poll came up I had quite frankly forgotten that the series existed. |
