FF VIII and IX card games

I think that while both of these card games were good ideas, they were both a bit poorly executed.

FF VIII had a game that was defenitely easy to play, but annoying to get around to if you didn't feel like putting in the effort. But, the goodies for playing the game well were a good bonus.

FF IX's game is honestly based on luck, or as I might imply; rand(). To me there were two main draws to playing Tetra Master; to kick butt with Vivi in the card tournament, and beat on Alleyway Jack (Gil) for all of his airship cards. Of course not everyone can combine minigame dedication with abject obstinance like I can.

Much like other card/trader minigames, they can succeed or fail depending on how much the player is willing to invest into them. Also, if the player is OK with mindless tedium (Secret of Evermore) or loosing alot for no good reason (Tales of Eternai). However, a little bit more simplicity maybe on FF VIII's side and alot less random outcomes on FF IX's side wouldn't have hurt.
