I, for one, think that with so many new FF titles on the horizon, we should just be happy with the future of the series in general. With FF Crystal Chronicles for the GCN, Square (or, rather, Square Enix by that point) will finally return to Nintendo, revitalizing a relationship that brought us many great games, including--but not limited to--the first six FFs, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Super Mario RPG. FF Tactics Advance is another step in this same direction, while simultaneously providing another game in this much-beloved spinoff series. FFX-2 provides the first ever direct sequel to a Final Fantasy, paving the way for more titles of a similar nature in the future (Square is already planning a FFVII-2). FFXI is the first online Final Fantasy (although that's not really necessarily a good thing to many fans of the series...I myself have reservations about it). FF Origins gives gamers yet another chance at revitalized nostalgia as well as a chance to play a game that has never before seen an official domestic release, FFII. Very little is known about FFXII at this point, but what I've seen has gotten me very excited. So, in conclusion, I think that perhaps we should just be excited about the general future of the series. |
