| Posted By: NunuSpider Posted On: Oct 8, 2003 Views: 82 | RE: UO:R It can't be explained adequately. Before UO:R, there was no Trammel. People had to actually take responsibilities for their actions because they could be hunted down and killed. People needed each other, so not everyone had a super mule and there was less gold farming for fear of PK's, so the economy actually existed. Trammel was definitely the death of true UO. But the tank mage nerfs sucked too. Before UO:R, there was a PvP system called the insta-hit/insta-swing system, in which you could pull out a weapon and swing it instantly to throw weapons into your spell combos. There were characters with 5 mage skills + a weapon skill and tactics that were the epitome of player skill pvp. That was definitely the golden age of player versus palyer combat. It took timing and skill to execute the combo correctly, and moreso to counter it effectively. Some newbies bitched that it was overpowered, but I can tell you 7 or 8 ways to counter it, as can any seasoned pvper from back then. My advice to you is to find a pre-ren player run shard, and try the combat for yourself. And if you act like a pretentious little a-hole, you're going to be killed. That was the beauty of UO. |
