Yeah, I've played a couple of very good ones.

The Ends of the Earth series, available at http://acad.stedwards.edu/~kcondel/, is extremely good (yes, that site hasn't been updated in a long time...). Nice graphics, good gameplay, good story...mmm.

Another good one, if you can get past the strange looking characters (i.e. the main character is a kind of fish) and iffy graphics, is Walthros...it has a story rivaling that of some commercial games. (http://members.aol.com/blueguinea).
