I have several mint examples of each pen, and
whilst I prefer the appearance and internal
simplicity of the Parker51, there is no doubt
in my mind that the Sheaffer PFM is the better
writing implement.
However the Parker will certainly win this poll,
as nearly 42 million examples were sold between
1939 and 1972, whereas the Sheaffer was only in
production for 15 years, and was considered to
have been a commercial failure.
This disparity of ownership will be reflected in
the poll.
