To me, the only real point in killing eople would be to satisfy our sadistic lust for revenge. How then are we not murderers? Yes, if I lost someone I love to a murderer, I'd mourn my ass off. And yes, I would probably change my opinion on death penalties, maybe I'd even try to kill the guy myself, but that would be due to a personality too weak to do the right thing and move on (with the murderer put in jail, of course). In fact, people are often disturbingly evil. It will be many generations, I think, until mankind can put of this childish lust for revenge. |

I think an additional reason why people are for the death penalty is because they may have dealt with the murder of a loved one, so they are emotionally driven. However, anyone who has taken a critical thinking course knows that emotional reasoning is a fallacy when taking a stand-point on an argument. I don't agree with the death penalty, but I do agree with a life sentence because on terms of freedom, there is no difference between the two, just one is more civilized than the other. |

The difference is that if the criminal is dead then the government will not have to spend a significant amount of money on food. That money could be better spent on schools, grand building projects or the military. Criminals should suffer their doom. The innocent victims did. |
