WHEN I TURNED ON MY COMPUTER, NOTHING APPEARS ON SCREEN EXCEPT A MULTICOLORED SQUARE ADVICING ME THAT (1) THE MONITOR IS WOKING (2) TO CHECK MY CABLE OR PC. I HAVE A GEFORCE AGF CARD I BOUGHT TWO YEARS AGO, I BOUGHT A NEW AGF CARD RADEON 7200, IT STILL DID NOT WORK. DURING THE BOOT UP PHASE IT SOUNDS LIKE EVERYTHING IS WORKING, IT LOADS THE CDROM, THE KEYBOARD LIGHTS UP BUT NOTHING APOPEAR ON MONITOR. NOWW I THOUGHT I NEEDED SOME NEWER DRIVERS BUT I GET EVEN GET ON THE COMPUTER TO DOWNLOAD SOME CAUSE NOTHING SHOWS ON SCREEN, I THEN BOUGHT A PCI THINKING THAT MAYYBE THE AGF DRIVERS WERE CORRUPTED. THE SAME THING HAPPENED W/ THE PCI CARD. I DONT THINK THE PCI AND AGF SLOTS ARE CORRUPTED NOR THE MOTHERBOARD. I WENT TO BEST BUY THEY WANT ME TO PAY $60 FOR A DIAGNOSIS. I DONT THINK SO. WHAT DO YOU THGINK IS THE PROBLEM? DOES IT HAVE TO DO WITH SOME OTHER PARTS? LIKE THE AMD ATHLON PROCESSOR (1.4-1.6MHZ)? OR THE RAM? PLEASE I NEED SOME HELP HERE. THANKS |

Posted By: Olorin Posted On: Aug 30, 2003 Views: 8246 | ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 32MB My Mobility Radeon 7500 wasn't on the list, so I picked ATI RADEON 7200 32MB.... |
Posted By: Steel_Wind Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 6024 | Thanks everyone (and wow) Huge thanks to everyone who reponded. We'll go over this data, crunch it and follow up with an article aimed at explaining current performance profiles and how this impacts, if any, on CC design. Roboius will also may offer some upgrade suggestions - backed up by some technical explanations - on how a video card upgrade will impact on your NWN play experience. Our initial reaction is one of some surprise. We exepected that the numbers would skew a little towards the performance side, but the numbers of *D*A*M*N decent cards is just north of 50%. Those with 64meg cards or better are in the LARGE majority of users. |
Posted By: Samwise95 Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 3013 | Card STUCK on the board Just say, "No", if you see a cheap system with the video card built on the board. I have a Nvidia GeForce2. It is OK, but I can't upgrade. MicroSoft will choose the ATI for the next low bidder. So just like what happened to Trident and then Voodoo, they are going to change everything around again. I'll be left in the dust. :( >poof! |

Posted By: kain Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 1768 | umm this poll is most likely just for kicks so we can see what everybody else uses.(this is ign fan site not biowares site silly). |
Posted By: RedR Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 1893 | woowoo go NVIDIA I may be only running a 440, but I do so love it! |
Posted By: roboius Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 2219 | Parentheses => Optional part of card name Sorry that this wasn't made clear, but any part of the card name that's in parentheses is optional. Thus, the entry "ATI RADEON 8500 (LE) 64MB" applies to the regular and LE versions of the 8500, or the entry "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900 (Ultra) 256MB" applies to the regular and Ultra versions of the FX 5900. |
Posted By: Denver Starkey Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 2053 | video cards are not the full story Video cards are not the full story on a machines game ability so i dont think this survey will really ehalp any. my example of living proof is that my old comp is a amd athlon classic at 850mhz with 320 megs of pc100 ram that runs with a GF 4 ti 4400 (only set to agp 2x) it will run many games great but with to many polies it slows down for some reason even tho it uses agf 4 ti 4400 my new comp is an alien ware with athlonXP 3000+ 1024 megs of ddr 400 ram and it has a readon 9700 pro (128megsram) its is a compute i never would have had the mopney for it my self (i got it as a present) on my old comp NWN ran at 15-25 fps second with every thing maxed (wich was still playable and enjoyable) my new machine runs it at 45-60 with every thing maxed. my point beings tho is that more than the graphics card affect the booste if i had just got areadon on my old pc I seriuosly doubt i'd be getting 45-frames on it mabey instead of taking on a pol for video cards they should make apoll to detine over all machine cabablity with questions like what processor and ram type and ammount and also have people test for frame rate average , there and many programs to to this with even personally i use FRAPS . so tell me what ya think? |
Posted By: Steel_Wind Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 1923 | Thanks for the feedback Re: missing cards: We had a far more extensive list of models which included some mobility processors and some less common cards. We pared down the list based on market share so that it would not be overwhelming in length. We are sorry if we excluded yours. If yours is not listed, do your best to either approximate your own or note it here. Well include it as best we can. As for Bioware asking for this poll Homegrown WTF? Are the lights on inside that skull of yours? I dont work for Bioware and as one of the big mod team coordinators this data is HIGHLY relevant to DLA and our technical design stds. I expect the guys at CODI care too as will many independent non-team based CC creators. Bioware can and DOES collect their own market data via nwn.bioware.com but they dont share it with the community and while Bioware's survey results are presumably more representative of NWN players generally, those results are not more representative of *NWVault users*. Vault users are the people who download modules and Custom Content. In other words the people we refer to when we use the word community. |

Posted By: Crusufix Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 1647 | They need to add another card... The ATI Radeon 8500 64MB That's what I'm running. It's faster than the LE and without the features of the All-In-Wonder. |

Posted By: Traianus Posted On: Aug 29, 2003 Views: 1462 | Moron Homegrown- The only idiot here is you. Graphics card info IS important to Bio and the community. They need to know what the graphics capabilities of their users are. Otherwise they may push their graphics beyond the capabilities of most of their target audience. Remember most people do not have the money to constantly upgrade to the lastest, greatest cards, and not all cards work in the same way. -Traianus |
