| Posted By: Marcella Posted On: May 6, 2004 Views: 4519 | Why is there NO plus size Magazines? I have gone from a size 0 or 2 to a size XXL-22 (it really depends on what the item is) and it is now very hard to find a magazine that you can look at and relate to. I have not found any of them.. All of the other magazines out there have so many thin people in them that I think that the clothes do not really look that good..They just hang and there is nothing there at all... If anybody knows of plus size magazines I would be most happy about that... Again most American women wear a size 14 or higher. Well maybe it is a 12.. And why do they make Plus Size or Full Figured clothes not like other clothes??? All that I see are ones with Piglet or Winnie the Pooh on them, yes cute but come-on... Plus the sizes of them, why are they so long and unflattering????? Anyway that is my thought on the subject NO real plus size magazines and there should be |

| Posted By: karen Posted On: Apr 18, 2004 Views: 4738 | Belle I loved Belle. I hope it comes back because I would subscribe to it |
| Posted By: Janet Posted On: Apr 12, 2004 Views: 4617 | Belle Lover I was just talking to my husband about a great magazine that I used to read years ago. It took me a minute to remember it, but when I did I hoped on the computer. I honestly miss thye magazine and what it had to offer. I am a bbw size 22 and I would love to see women of color in my size in clothing that I would wear. Not only would I like to see the magazine revived, I would love to do some modeling in it as well. Keep me posted and I hope that this magazine comes back to life. |
| Posted By: suenyo Posted On: Mar 30, 2004 Views: 4762 | Belle Magazine I love this magazine and i reaaly want it back I would love to even pose for it. Big women are lovely creatures and we should be appreciated. please bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| Posted By: Jayne Posted On: Mar 16, 2004 Views: 4986 | Belle Magazine For the first time, a magazine for full figured women of color, with models that show true size. All other magazines mentioned only have models that are about a regular 16 and few if any go further. Lane Bryant and Roman cataloges are the worst, all models are size 5 Belle Magazine made me have so much self esteem, fashions and where to get them shown on size 24 models. Bring Belle Back, its too good to pass up. Although basically the magazine catered to Women of Color, all can take advantage of the fashions and the articles pertaining to being full figured in this "skinny" world. Come on Belle, We miss and love you!!!!! |
| Posted By: Covese Silken Posted On: Mar 9, 2004 Views: 4990 | Women of Size and Beauty Every magazine mentioned was good for the times they were available. I got encouraged to enter pageants from reading BBW and discovered that the models used in the magazines were size 10-12 because manufacturers only sent those sizes to be photographed. Despite winning pageants, if you do not have the look they want you will never get in the magazine. I was a fit model for a designer and she informed the stylist of BBW that she only wanted me in her clothers and that is the reason I was in BBW. After modeling then what? My organization Big Pretty Girl Mentoring and Motivational seminars are available.I am a Actress,Model and Singer In Los Angeles, California |
| Posted By: Christine Posted On: Mar 9, 2004 Views: 4826 | Belle Magazine L">I truly miss Belle magazine!!! I had subscriptions to other ones but this one was difinitely for me. When i opened the magazine I actually saw someone who looked like me. The other ones always had a size 14w in most of theirs ads. Im a size 20 African American woman so i couldnt relate to a model in an outfit in that size. Please Please bring back BELLE. |
| Posted By: Patsy Nevins Posted On: Mar 6, 2004 Views: 4666 | Plus size magazines The only good magazine for fat women (please let's be honest about what we are, fat is a good, honest adjective, it is not a 4-letter word) was Radiance, because it truly celebrated size diversity & full acceptance. I read it for 16 years & grew so much from it in fat pride & body acceptance. I am sorry that the money ran out. I have read BBW a lot over the years, & it had a lot of good things in it, it did not push dieting, though there were subtle hints that it was only alright to be large up to a POINT. The others all seem to use progressively smaller & smaller models, to send the message that plus size is a size 12 or 14, when that is the AVERAGE American woman's size, & there was virtually no activism. Figure is the biggest slap in the face yet, with its clothing spreads with lovely healthy looking women fitted in between the diet ads & the glowing testimonial for Weight Loss Surgery. For me personally, a magazine needs to have the attitude of Radiance (more fashions, makeup, etc., is okay if a lot of women like that), that it is truly FOR, by & about larger women, with no apologies, that it is in favor of true size acceptance, with no compromises, & that it will not promote body hatred, dieting, & WLS. I did & would buy such a magazine in a moment, & pay up to $25 per year to subscribe. Patsy Nevins |
| Posted By: Angela Posted On: Mar 6, 2004 Views: 4453 | Magazine All is all, if any of the magazines had featured articles, such as plus size/curvy pageants, modeling, real plus size models in their magazines, the magazines would take off....they need to get exposure out there, especially in today's society where you can be plus and feel healthy. If more plus/curvy women would speak out and feel more comfortable about themselves the magazines would make it. Feature everyday plus/curvy women and their goals, achievements, trials and tribulations..this is what society want to see and hear. Feature the plus pageants...the beautiful women who win them! |
| Posted By: LeWanda Posted On: Feb 21, 2004 Views: 4509 | Belle Magazine I agree with everyone else. I loved Belle Magazine. Although I sent in a check for back issues and never received them. Belle showed me that I can be big and beautiful. I entered my first plus size beauty pageant because of an article I saw in Belle Magazine. I miss it. Please bring it back. |
| Posted By: Landa Posted On: Jan 24, 2004 Views: 4542 | Belle -- Missing The Good Ole Days I'm in agreeance with many of the posts. It seems like as soon as we get something great going, we lose it. I didn't find out about BELLE until a year after they started. Once I was aware of the magazine, I immediately signed up, as well as going back and getting the missed issues. I think part of the problem was lack of promotion. Magazines stay afloat partly in due to the subscription base. I can't help but wonder if better promotion was done about the magazine if it wouldn't still be around today. This also proves that there is a base of this type of periodical. A shame that we couldn't come up with another one. |
| Posted By: Keleigh Posted On: Jan 20, 2004 Views: 4533 | Belle & Mode As A Zuftig woman myself it disheartens me to see that once we finally get a magazine that uplifts us like cosmo does the skiny women they are quickly discontinued. Personally I feel discriminated against. I would love to see them back in print. If there was a petition I would sign it in a heart beat we are Beautiful Also. |
| Posted By: MAURICE Posted On: Dec 20, 2003 Views: 4588 | BELLE MAGAZINE My first issue of Belle was the Fall 1996 issue (and I still have it). I'll admit that I didn't think too much of full-figured women until I picked up this magazine while I was in the hospital. It broke my heart to see this magazine go out of publication. Please, bring Belle magazine back and make it monthly, too! |
