Status Update: As most who visit MEDREK regularly know, the traffic to the forum has been increasing by the day and today Medrek averages 100 posting a day. As of today, there have been over 27,000 postings and at this rate there will be over 30,000 postings when Medrek starts its 3rd year of service. While we don't want to get in competition of "who is first or second", based on our observation, Medrek seems to be the most active and most utilized forum on Ethiopia on the Internet and its popularity increasing by the day. Another major fact, which is often overlooked is while the increasing number of postings is a sign of its popular use, we know that a very large number of Medreks audience is made up of those who only read and do not participate by postings to the forum. Based on our estimation, roughly only $5 to 10% of those who visit the site end up posting. Question requesting you feedback and reaction: When Medrek started two years ago, we did not know how it would turn out and it is safe to say it was an experiment. Now that two years have passed, we thought it we would ask you questions about your experience using Medrek. * What have you learned from Medrek given that so many diametrically opposed views are presented and clashing on every imaginable issue? * Do you feel that given the meeting of these different ideologies, did the forum allow these ideas to come closer to consensus or has it resulted in the opposite effect where each side has hardened and gaps furthered? * Based your answer to the above question, who is to be blamed or credited for this. Is it the nature of online discussions/forum or the personalities/culture of posters that was the primary factor which resulted in this outcome? * Can you say you have learned a valuable piece of information from reading postings on Medrek you were unlikely to have not come across elsewhere. * Given the different personalities and ideas represented, have you learned new facts about our people, how we communicate, what our priority is and how we create/solve problems. Have you changed, even in a small way, or been tempted to reconsider a belief about us Ethiopia/Ethiopians as a result your observation of people/ideas and personalities on the forum. * Given the advantages and disadvantages you have observed from you own perspective and all things considered; do you believe the existence of Medrek is for the better or its negative outweighs the positive.
