This went on until I was 15. Oh yeah, my Father was in on it too. At 24 I performed oral sex on my then girlfriends 11 year old daughter after she masturbated in front of me. Knowing right from wrong does not mean we will always do what is right. Ever stole something? Vandalized something? Done drugs? Beat the crap out of someone for no reason. Murder anyone? Cheat on a test? These are all the wrong decisions. Each of us manifests our sinful nature in different ways. After a 1 year intensive program in prison, I came to understand why it was that I did what I did. I realized that this was not something that I wanted to continue doing. It was not an easy thing. I didn't like what I saw in the mirror. Some people can change. It has to be in their heart though. I've been out for over 7 years and not one problem with the law. Haven't molested anyone. Haven't wanted to molest anyone. I am trying to mind to my family that I now have. Most people close to me know of my past. They seem to have forgiven me. I know they trust me. If I ever did something like this again though, I would want to be killed. I am grateful I got the chance to look at myself. I sure wasn't going to do it on my own. I had to de-program. Few can do this on their own. I'm not asking for sympathy, just reconsideration of some of the ways that you all feel. I will be forever sorry for what I have done and there certainly isn't a day that goes by that I don't regret what I've done. Guilt is my worst prison. The registration does not protect anyone. The news reports this unacknowledged fact everytime a repeat sex offender strikes. The only thing it does is risk having my wife and children hurt by some idiot driving drunk past my house hurling bottles and shouting obscenties while my kids play. We need to stop being so self-righteous. None of us are without guilt in something. How many of you would go into a police station admitting what you had/have done???????????

There are thousands like Jim I have worked with in therapy and what you see on the news is far far less than 1% of offenses. This hysteria is making over 550,000 Registered Sex Offenders pay for the crime of one idiot who is nothing like those 550,000 others. The idea of "Burn em all at the stake" is no different than murder. Any of you that would proclaim such violence do not have the guts to do it yourself and know that it is criminal to do so. Your anger is justified to an extent but should be directed at the one responsible, not everyone else. The real prevention is education! Most of the 550,000 RSO in this country would be just as interested in protecting your child as you are. Give some human credit here that these people are not monsters. Leave the extreme cases to be dealt with individually like Couey and Duncan. Those guys are murderers and should be dealt with appropriately... Leave the rest alone to get on with their lives without harrassment as long as they are law-abiding citizens.... JUST LIKE YOU!!! My daughter was kidnapped, raped, tortured, murdered, put in a box and left in a shed for five months before her remains were found. I wish the "offender" who did it (yes, he was a neighbor and friend) would have never had the chance, because he should have been in jail for the two rapes and attempted murder 12 years before. Of course, no one knew of his previous charges, because he was had done his time. I hope all you "offenders" understand why we all think you can not be rehabilitated!

My heart goes out to those of you that have suffered the loss or violation of your child. And Jim, to you who was taught your behavior. That is a bit different than someone who has a sick mind - and there are many sick minds here on the planet . . . unfortunately. But then, the reality is, we don't really know where we are anyway. My ex used to say that this was hell. The lack of regard for human life here certainly supports a strong argument for his belief. The Vedas say that we are in Kali Yuga (the age of darkness). I think they are accurate. I also think that it has not yet reached it's peak. Those of us who are not sick must polish our minds and bathe them in love and compassion rather then live in fear and anger. The more love and understanding (and I don't mean acceptance because these behaviors are not acceptable) we cultivate within ourselves, the more we have to offer to our children and the world. Rage against a violator is totally understandable and appropriate, however, hanging on to anger and resentment, and living in fear deteriorates the quality of life for ourselves and our loved ones. I lost a son and I know the horror of that experience. Shortly after, a woman, who had also lost her son, said to me, "you get better or you get bitter, you choose". Let's turn our anger into a force of love that moves across the face of the earth to make a difference. Rather than stewing in anger, let's use the power of it (because it is very powerful) to make a difference, make sure the children are safer, more strongly connected to their own inner awareness and guidance, taught to trust their feelings and intuitive sense rather than what they are told. We have to cultivate our instincts by developing our awareness and supporting our children to know who they are, to understand their instincts, and trust and follow them so that we and most importantly, they are not victims in any way, shape for form.

Ok , so because of the first two someone lost a few dollars but they aren't terrorized for the rest of their life! Beat the crap out of someone for no reason. If you do that you obviously have problems! Most people have a reason and the person isnt usually "damaged" for the rest of their lives! You can not compare these things to molesting a child (or anybody) or murder! Murder anyone? There should be no parole for murderers either! They should be excecuted too. Why should society take the chance that a child molester will change? The victim(s) didnt get a second chance! I agree with you on one thing. Registration doesnt work! And why should we as taxpayers pay for you to live nicely in prison? I am sickened by the fact that a place you are sent to as a punishment has things like arts and crafts, cable TV and other special programs. People in prison should spend the entire day sitting in a cell! No free time! No play time! No TV time! No extras! No phone calls! I do like that some jails are getting rid of costly hot foods! Serve them cold cheap sandwiches every day! And why the hell do we pay for someones "last meal"? Why the hell should they get one!? Their victims didnt get to pick their last meal! I think the families of the victims should be givin some "alone time" with the sex offender or murder before they are EXECUTED!

The main reason child molestors are put behind bars is because the children speak up. Why not just kill your only witness if the penalties are the same.
