Voting

I think he is commenting that the highest rated module is not in the top 2. Not the order on the board.

Couple of things. Voting on a module and the contest are and should be separate. Mine was really the most blatent non-traditional "post-OC" module in the mix and voting on the module and voting for the contest are different.

That said, I do think TomG's module was down the list and took a while for people to "find it". Momentum for the top two came pretty quickly.

It doesn't surprise me that the modules with the most downloads have the most votes. That is how this will end up. Any module that gets a 9 - right now there are 4 in the contest (with the median system hehe) coming in above 9 might deserve a vote. A month is pretty tight to play through all these and so you expect the votes to track with downloads.

Quick thanks to the community for the support of the contest. All of the builders got more feedback, downloads, votes, etc than any of us (well maybe minus one hahaha) could have gotten in such a relatively short time.

Listing of Mods

I think they're in order of when they were submitted, actually.

Poll vs Rankings

It will be interesting to see if the poll mirrors the rankings in the list as currently it doesn't. In fact, they don't really line up very well at all.

TSQ #80 #4
Shadohaunt #144 #2
TNS #179 #1
TiS #208 #10
TCG #377 #10
OotS #393 #8
EoU #418 #9
HoUP #427 #3
TAC 7 votes #7
PC Not Final #5
SS Not Final #6

Popular Vote vs. Final Vote

"But I was wondering, since TNS has a large lead will Maximus' or Biowares votes differ?"

They may and they may not.

Either way, it'll put rest to the argument of whether or not favoritism is involved in this vote... and I suspect that it was part of the reason there are going to be two different votes. It would've been impossible to forsee who would submit a mod and who wouldn't - this way, all bases are covered.

Good job all

Hoenstly I only had time to play 4 of the bridge modules. And I'd like to apologies to the rest of the builders who I didn't give a chance.

For me it was a close toss up between TNS and Shadowhaunt. But in the End TNS was more fun for me and that was the decidng factor. As far as quality and originality I thought they were about even.

But I was wondering, since TNS has a large lead will Maximus' or Biowares votes differ?

You are right. You have definetly earned the right to use your own name instead of a fake one. Same point I was trying to make about Bayesian on the modules poll. I don't have any problems being the small guy myself and trying to get up there against the good competition we have. It's great to see that a lesser known author did fairly well in this poll also. Good luck!

Re: Papermonk's Name

In regards to Papermonk using his name, it would really be silly not to. If you put all that time and effort into making something, it's a good feeling to see your name stamped on it, and helps preserve and build any reputation you may have.

From a logical standpoint, also, if he used a fake name, I doubt he would have gotten any of the credit he deserves. A lot of the mods that were posted at the last minute got little to no recognition or notice, and even very good mods get passed up simply because there wasn't the same amount of exposure time.

And for those using "fanboy" terminology, don't forget that there's two votes - general popular opinion, and then the one by Maximus & Bioware and all. *shrug*

Huzzah!

I've been leery of posting any comments here for fear of sounding like a politician or somesuch, but I wanted to thank those of you who've voted - for any mod - as everyone's opinion counts, no matter which mod you're swayed towards.

I didn't expect my mod to do nearly this well at all, and I'm pleasantly surprised! I made up just about all of the backstory from the top of my head (Shar who? =p) and I'd be lying if I didn't admit that the creation of Shadohaunt was quite a learning experience.

Thank you guys for all of the support and votes!

Re:

" I wonder if the vote would have been the same if Paper hadn't used his name? hmmm"

You know.. this did cross my mind.

But then I realized something... I'm only known because I've worked my butt off for this community. I think I've earned it. So I'm not going to NOT use my name when I earned it. This was MY module and I wanted to do something on my own that was not CODI. And I wasn't about not to use my name and take credit for my work - whether it was a success or a flop. It's not like someone just said "Oh, here, you're name is now Papermonk and you're a community leader around here."

Now, I do hope people voting aren't voting because of what group I run or who I am. I've no interest in getting votes for that reason. I would hope that people who play it and vote for it enjoyed the module and feel it is the best one. My ego doesn't need false praise.

Multiplayer, yet again.

Making my scripts multiplayer has become second-nature, since my only released module prior to this contest is a multiplayer-only PvP module. :)

popularity...

I agree with Ridge. Shadohaunt is the best mod of the bunch with Papermonk's coming in a close second. I wonder if the vote would have been the same if Paper hadn't used his name? hmmm

Re: MP

yeah :grins: if you assume a competant bunch of MP players. However... :grins: MP gets worse than SP when it comes to "Oh dear god... what were they thinking!" type situations.

Even the THOUGHT of doing a MP module gives me shudders when I think of trying to compensate for all the insane things players can do. I know I was not prepared at ALL for some of the things SP players did in my module. Most the early bug fixes were just fixing "things I never expected to happen" happening.

It is much easier if you start from the beginning doing it, though, like you said. Still... :shudders: Brave men to do a full MP mod. Braver than me. :Grins:

Multiplayer Support

Assuming you plan for it from the start of the module, adding basic multiplayer support for a "One Party Only" server, which is what most groups of friends would be using to play through the module, is not too time consuming. Just a matter of including the Plotwizard functions and using them to check for item possession, update your quest states, and assign experience instead of the equivalent single-player functions.

There are other exceptions of course, like player teleporting scripts and whatnot, but it's still only an extra 3 lines of code to add in a while loop over all of the faction members.

As for making it work when people are running around all unorganized instead of in a nice tight party... Doing that right takes a lot more time. I went for a quick and kludgy answer to that problem. People in my module who are not in the quest party are basically stuck with nothing to do but wander the streets of the city, since all the major quest areas require an item possession check on the player's party.

Now having said all of that, multiplayer support is clearly not a make-or-break issue for a single-player focused contest like this.
