Fate

How can the future be predicted, its impossible. Life is made up of decisions that we all make. Things happen because we make them happen not because its supposed to happen! If the future really could be predicted then surely we all have our lives mapped out, now i know that is rubbish because i aint writing this because i'm supposed to be i'm writing it because i choose to.

'Fate' is a word that should not exsist, it means absolutely nothing. What would be the point of our existence if all our decisions are already made. We all make our own paths and we all make decisions that make the future, the future can't be predicted because it hasn't happened.

We can guess what might happen in the future and no doubt someone can guess pretty close but it's only down to luck.

RE: Fate

Don't be too sure of anything.
Suppose we are players in some kind of "movie",acting by free will. But what if we were
merely running through the frames of an already existing "movie"?Then the future frames would already be there, despite the fact we are acting
by free will.
Not very likely.But impossible?

RE: Fate

what would be the point of predicting future events if there were nothing we could do about it?

RE: Fate

If we really were just running through the frames of an already existing movie, then please explain why I should bother to get out of my bed and go to work? According to you whatever I choose to do has already been determined, so why bother?

RE: Fate

In fact whether or not you bother would make no
difference, because your choice would already be
determined.
But don't bother about it,it's probably nothing
more but another fantasy of the human mind.

RE: Fate

This reminds me of an indian proverb:

If you can do something about it, why worry?
If you can't do something about it, why worry?

See the fact is I'm a christian. Now beleiving that there is a god, and this is a design and thus needing a designer. Now if there was an all knowing God. There has to be a future and only one future. If you are not religious you can easily not believe this but if you are the only way you can avoid this is by saying God isnt all knowing. Now this comes to something I thought about. Because there is a future that would mean there are people destined to go to hell and suffer torture for the rest of enternity and there will always be people who will be destined to go to heaven and do all they....

you get the picture...

RE: Fate

Sorry for the double post, but something came to my mind.

Now these days I can only be sure of one thing. Many things I am not sure about. Like other people existing, I mean i could be in a dimension where everyone else has programmed responces to everything I say. I mean I could be the only one that I exists. ANd I don't about you people. there is no proof where Im sitting is actually a chair. But there is one thing that im sure of. and it is that I know that I exist. Because I can think, I can feel that im thinking, I think about thinking...etc ANd because of that i find it hard to believe that someone is controlling me now if some one was controlling me then i would be an robot and i cant think. BUT! I can think which means there might a Designer (God) (Which I beleive so) But the designer might be just as clueless as we are. Or there muiltiple futures that combine each otehr into one future.

"The sum of all futures combine equals one final future"

I dont know but I think some scientist said that.

RE: Fate

CMC Dragonkai,

You say there HAS TO BE a future and only one future. Why? Surely being a Christian and believing in God, that doesn't mean there is only ONE future. No one is destined for anything, it's our own choices that decides our path nobody else's.

I think you are letting your mind wonder a bit. Your statement made me laugh "Now these days I can only be sure about one thing. Many things I am not sure about. Like other people existing, I mean i could be in a dimension where everyone else has programmed responses to everything I say. I mean I could be the only one that exists" Are you God then? You carry on to say "But there is one thing that im sure of. and it is that I know I exist. Because I can think, I can feel that im thinking, I think about thinking... etc And because of that i find it hard to believe that someone is controlling me now if some one was controlling me then I would be a robot and I can't think." :D brilliant to read, you said in your last post "There has to be a future and only one future". So are we robots or not? If God has only one future for us then surely we are acting as robots...and in your dimension you said you know you exist because you can feel and think but what if you are in someone else's dimension where you are supposed to think you are real ;).

Of the subject a bit: Do dogs and cats have a heaven and hell? What about trees they are living organisms do they have a heaven and hell? What makes us so different and so special that we go to another place?

"Of the subject a bit: Do dogs and cats have a heaven and hell? What about trees they are living organisms do they have a heaven and hell? What makes us so different and so special that we go to another place?"

This is one question i keep asking to one of my Christian friend who claims that only human beings are special and animals are there so that we could eat them.

She claims that human beings supposedly have one extra component 'the spirit' somewhere within us. What more? If you don't accept God (as in Jesus and Jesus alone), then I'm supposed to be banished to hell and tortured there forever.

Well, i went on asking why there are so many species of animals then? and what about those species that are poisonous? And why so many types of plants if the so-called 'special' human beings are not going to make use of them? Why is there a hell where people are going to be tortured when after death their bodies remain on earth and there is no way of feeling pain if the brain doesn't exist!

Well, my friend is still trying to convince me about the simplistic view of heaven n hell with God appearing as the main Punisher rather than someone who showers endless love.

RE: Fate

Judging by your last sentence perhaps your friend is a Catholic, they are really into the whole punishment and guilt thing big time.
Sad really, life is to be enjoyed, is it not?

RE: RE: Fate

heh I beleive it only works if you are not going to purposely do it agian and expect that you can just repent and releive the guilt cause it doesnt work and I know many people who do just that

(Mind you this is a bit off topic)

Also Grant anotehr I want to add is that

Ever heard qoute I think, therefore I am.

You should research that qoute and what it really means.
