Where did..?

Where did the salt over the shoulder come from? I've never heard of that. What's it supposed to do? If i start hurling bags of salt over my shoulder does a leprachan appear?

When you spill salt you are supposed to throw it over your shoulder in an attempt to blind the evil spirits lurking behind you. i'm not sure what shoulder you are "supposed" to throw it over.. so i do both for good measure.. don't need any evilness behind me.. have enough to deal with infront.

i believe you're only supposed to toss a pinch of spilled salt over your right shoulder. if you spill a whole big tub of salt you don't toss it all over your shoulder. that's kinda pointless- you've still got spilled salt! =)
