Buying Greenaway Movies?

I am having great difficulty finding many Peter Greenaway classics to purchase. I don't know if other people experience the same difficulty, but in Australia where I am from it is very difficult to track Greenaway movies down in stores and on the internet!
Movies I am having the most diffulties finding (to purchase) are:
Darwin; The European Showerbath; The Death of a Composer; 26 Bathrooms; Prospero's Books (DVD).
Just wondering if anyone can help out, or has any of these they are willing to sell.
Regards. Gary

RE: Buying Greenaway Movies?

Hi Folks,

Most of his short-films are indeed very difficult to find. The more classical and better known ones like "Prospero's Books" are certainly available worldwide trough "Amazone". Try there but please don't think you can have them there for little money !

Hope I've been of some help and if I can help you in this respect any further, you know my email by now.
All the best for the new year and keep on looking for the work of a really "special" director, he's deserving it!

RE: Buying Greenaway Movies?

I've been waiting over a decade for Prospero's Books to come out on DVD. (I set up an alert on amazon.com in 1994 which will notify me when it is due to be released....every year I renew the alert).
All that's available is a VHS version, long since out of print, which you have to buy used. There used to be a laser-disc version available, but finding a player can be dicey. The Cook... is also out of print, and VERY pricey to buy used.
Maybe if we storm the folks at Columbia / Tristar, they'll release (or re-release) these exquisite films on DVD !

RE: Buying Greenaway Movies?

I've actually written to the Criterion Collection in an attempt to get somebody off their butts and release a deluxe version of The Cook, the Thief, etc. It's ridiculous some the crazily obscure films that get the 2 + disc treatment at Criterion. Peter Greenaway!! Come on!
