No scene is dated, you do not feel in the 80ies at all, you feel the passion the film is made with. The beautifull scenery, the colours, the accuracy and love of any schot, the actors. everything is in balance with the banility of life. And being closed in with your personal situation/personality. To show all the nice views in scenes, they really touch you deep, and combine them with this banility is art on itself. The director, actors and all the people that heve worked on this production did a remarkable job, made a timeless and valuable statement. |

I had just finished High School and the topic of this movie arise during a conversation between Film Students attending the local University. I was intrigued enough to see the film and doing so had a profound impact on me. I was 18 then, just old enough to be allow admittance into the theater, but nowhere near worldly enough to fully understand the content. This past weekend I watched the movie again on DVD. 20 years on this movie still packs an enormous punch. The use of lighting and color is unlike any movie I have ever watched. The acting is brilliant, the tragedy believable and the revenge fantastic. This movie is nearly flawless and remains a classic that will always hold a place in my video library. This film is a true masterpiece. |
