RE: The Pillow Book

I've enjoyed the movie but I've found it too far from the atmosphere of the "Makura no Soshi". Sometimes I judge a movie in relation of what I've expected from it.

RE: The Pillow Book

moving and beautiful - i kept wondering if it was also insightful about sexuality in this country - her move from traditional marriage, to control of her sexual life and lovers, accomodation of bisexuality - could Greenway only have done this in another culture than his own, to be safe? as shakespeare had to move his stories of fatal jealousies to Italy, where his british compatriots would not be tarnished by such violence - we think that asian life is comfortable with sexuality mixed with power and enigmatic seemingly affectless love - grudges played out long in this one, the englishman's love for the artist...and a traditional sense of honor. sorry this is nearly incomprehensible.
