MOE

I enjoy both but rpgs generally seem better with male heros if the females were done truthfully there would be too many problems

This topic should've had a third option: "It doesn

In the SaGa series, you typically choose between Male and Female and, in many cases, the females are the best choice(Romancing SaGa 2, the female character was identical to the male except that she could learn the Female-Only Waza, while there was no Male-Only Waza. In Romancing SaGa 3, Katrina was one of the strongest main characters in the game, as well as having one of the better storylines. And in SaGa Frontier, Assellus had the strongest storyline as well as being one of the strongest characters in the game). It's the same thing with Seiken Densetsu 3. You got to choose between 3 males and 3 females for main characters, each one with their own unique story, of which Reisz is said to be the best(I disagree, however, and think that Duran's is, but that's MO.)

Lead

the reason why i picked male is because in every hero story the male is almost always the hero there are very few cases when the female is the hero.

Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI had both male and female lead characters. For the first half of the game, before the world was destroyed, it was mainly male, except the very begenning. The second half, after the destruction of the world, you started out with a female. I enjoyed the way the game worked with the characters. If I was forced to choose, it would be a male lead character. But that is because I happen to be a male.

...

I prefer male chars. becuase I can connect, although there's a couple cool females they usually lag behind in levels to the males in my games...

Well...

I think that having a choice between Male and Female lead is a great idea, but it limits involvement of the lead because there are two different possibilities.

However, without a choice, I would have to say I probably would want a Male lead then. However, I can't say I would mind a Female lead.

Although this raises an important issue, as in there are many more Male characters than Female. I'd think it should be a bit more equal.

...However, if given the option to name my lead, if I were to name it after myself I'd probably prefer the lead to be male. For obvious reasons (or reasons easy to guess).

dosen't matter, ya.

Male or Female it dosen't matter. On Star Ocean 2 you could pick a male or female and I thought that was a plus.

Re: Either

Hey, I am new here to RPGClassics.com so just call me Rimew.

ANy way I agree with Wilfredo Martinez and Pappy's daughter it would be fun to play as both male and female. but they need a Final Fantasy where you have a combination of leaders both male and female and you play as two or how ever amount of teams of 3 or 4 to beat the game but also go indepth with the characters and I mean all of the characters. But still keep so suspence of what is going to happen next like in Final Fantasy 7. That would be a great Final Fantasy game.

See ya later I will be posting more messages later,
Rimew

No "either" option?

Most RPGs have male heroes for the simple reason that most RPG players are male (or so it is believed) and the game makers want them to empathize with the hero, even pretend to be him. Female RPG heroes are usually there ALSO for male attraction- that's why they're usually sexy and/or charming. Still, many RPGs have had some excellent female heroes, empowered without being butch. Personally I would play as either, as long as the game is about adventure and not sexual roles (but since there was no "either" option in this poll, I had to vote male.)

RPG Men

I think that a male lead character tends to follow the idea that RPGs were founded on; man gets quest, girl gets snared, man saves girl, man saves world. Although every now and then it is fun to play as a girl just to see what kind of dresses she can get for the prom:-)
