Bandgeeks

I think high school is a load of bullcrap. You aren't really learning anything new, with the exception of about 1,000 different ways to say marijuana, and about 1,000 different names of body parts used in sexual intercourse. I think it's silly. I'm only a sophmore in high school and I already think it's really stupid! Please comment!

Well I am now about to complete my masters degree and looking back on high school I can tell you that the information you learn is important, but the rest of highschool blows!

Well then, I haven't learned anything yet, and I was about to give up, but nevermind! I now have a wee bit of hope that high school is somewhat worthwhile! Thank you! Seriously!

No, high school is worthless. I encourage you to drop out.

If you graduate, who will bus my table when I'm out at a restaurant?

Get it yet?

I get it, but a waitress is getting paid higher all the time. Just think, do you want someone who is under-paid, stinky, and rude to serve your customers that are paying $99 a plate? Mine will get $2 more than min. wage. Thats not great, but with the free dinner and tips that makes the waitress' at my future resturant pretty happy. Which will come across to the customer/diner and they will buy more.

I didn't like high school. Waisting your mind till your 18. But you don't learn how much time you waisted in "electives" till you graduate.

Take me for example. I could already cook, so instead of taking Home ec., I should have taken more spelling related classes.

In New York City, top waiters/waitresses can make $100K+ per year. Not too shabby.

Of course the cost of living in NYC is completely outrageous!!!

I totally know what you mean about the electives. A band geek myself, I thought that playing oboe would buy me into a good college for cheap. Clarinet, flute, trumpet, and saxophone players were a dime a dozen... so I was told. Turns out oboe players are too. Sucks to my assmar. At least I was able to have fun in the drama club. And I did develop good time-management skills.

As for the rest of highschool, it wasn't all that shabby. I learned some things, but most of it has been forgotten. At least I can spell.

Wowee!! What a great bunch of responses! Now at least I KNOW that band is useless!
And yes, oboe players are a dime a dozen. Good ones aren't. There aren't very many good oboeists out there.

Well, I was good. I raked in the "ones" at solo contests, and made first chair in All-District band every year. I made it to the 2nd round of All-State tryouts every year as well, but didn't really care once I got there. I made my own reeds, and sold them to other oboists at the competitions. I worked hard to be good. At one of the universities I auditioned at, they drooled over my performance, but they couldn't give me enough money. That, and it was 9 hours away from home, which was further than I was willing to go at 17. I was also my oboe instructor's star student, and he played in the local Phil.

My whole point is: Even the good ones are a dime a dozen.

I played the clarinet and the saxophone. I quit after the ninth grade because it wasn't cool anymore. I do, however, respect anyone that can make it through high school and even be in a college band. They have it pretty good! They get to go to all the football games for free, home and away, which is worth a lot! Plus, basketball and wrestling. Yes, wrestling!

That's really only cool if you LIKE sports, though.
And in university band, you work your tail off. You have to put in about 20 hours of work per week to learn your music, perfect it, learn the marching show, and all the tunes you play in the stands. Some people REALLY like that, but I didn't care for it ALL that much. It was fun, but not something I wanted to dedicate ALL my college years to. And you only got ONE hour of college credit. Sucks to be those guys.
