| Posted By: Marcus Posted On: Nov 2, 2004 Views: 888 | Armagedon Well said, if badly written. Confidence and solidarity are the backbone of our economy and leadership is crucial. We need a little, just a little from the White House. Bush is not a capable leader. He never has been. The road ahead is indeed dark! On a disturbing note: I was told by my brother in Oregon that you must now physically show proof of citizenship to register to vote. This is according to Bushes push to have the law changed. Oregon is a vote only by mail state. How can you show physical proof if registering is mail only? It's a great way to stop this years youth from registering. I'm expecting Brown-shirts any day. [That's a Nazi reference for you Republicans.] We're doomed! |

| Posted By: Stumbling towards Armegedon Posted On: Nov 2, 2004 Views: 697 | Shocked and bemused After reading some of these comments I dispair of Americans ability to see past the rhetoric. We used to be shrewed and savvy. Now we bleet back anything they feed us. Abortion is bad-vote for republicans. War is bad-vote for Democrats. Terrorism, terrorism, we all fall down. The day America can't deal with a bunch of illiterate sand crabs with a bad attitude, weak minds, and a few hand grenades-regardless of who sits in the White House, I'll quit these United Staes and become an Australian. In short....it ain't gonna happen in my lifetime. So if you'd like to get real...? This drunk, coward we've had to endure for the last four misrible years has had no platform for foreign or domestic policy other than hate mongering and spreading fear. He's distroyed or weakenened many charished alliances internationally. Frittered away a tax surplus and while screaming about Democratic spending excesses, has managed to spend more than any president in history. I wouldn't even mind that had I gotten any of it. My job has gone overseas twice since this slacker has been in office. Kerry is not the best Democratic candidate available and I don't know why they picked him, but I think Texas roadkill is better than Bush. Bush embarasses the U.S. every time he opens his mouth. I would think we'd vote him out on those grounds alone. Almost everyone that has written something, with the exception of the Anti Christ commentor, can express themselves better thann Bush. It seems the only thing the man knows how to do is cover up the facts and hide the hangovers. The presidents job isn't easy. But even if you just leave things alone they will tend to keep going in the same direction. He couldn't even do that, and he was given one of the best presidencies in history to skate on. All he had to do was instill a little confidence in the country for the sake of the economy and lead the government in the best possible direction for ALL Americans in as moral and ethical manner possible. He distroyed almost all faith in this country.Bush is a fool. Daddy bought the White House for him and he's abused the priveledge ever since. If you need a proof...look at how he has devided this nation, gotten us into a war ( and then pointed at Kerry for not supporting it once we all saw how it was going to be run)and torched our economy ( while making his buddies richer than Midas). Kerry's not a huge inmprovement but I don't believe he would damage the country as much as Bush and his cronies have. We need someone/anyone new in the Oval Office. |
| Posted By: A Bush Supporter Posted On: Nov 1, 2004 Views: 861 | Women Looks like Joanne has investigated and researched her opinion on who the next President should be and not come to a decision based on criticism...I agree with Joanne and of the two evils Bush is the man to keep us safe and to hell with a global test that Kerry is envisioning..does he REALLY know what is going on and taking time out of his campaign belittling Bush and really know what is going on over there in Iraq and for his latest ad about the weapons disappearing..it is all LIES? Does he get the facts before he comes says whatever people will say to VOTE for him? Enough said...I could go on and on and on but everyone should remember Sept.11th and know that will happen again even worse with Kerry in there and his global tests..*Laughs* |
| Posted By: Don Posted On: Oct 29, 2004 Views: 1207 | Who to Vote For? Is the United States safer now than on 11 Sept ? Well .. - Are there more or less enemies of the US today than on 11 Sept? - If we have to take action against an Iran, North Korea or another country in the coming years, will our strongest allies (most recently UK, Spain) come to our aid again? Answer to the 2 questions above, are "more" and "no". That provides an answer to the first question and who you should vote for in the presidential election. |
| Posted By: Scripps Howard Posted On: Oct 19, 2004 Views: 1547 | Kerry's Scare Tactics An editorial / By JAY AMBROSE Scripps Howard News Service 18-OCT-04 Social Security is cruising toward a crisis, and one reason is the kind of blatant, outrageous, inexcusable tactics that Sen. John Kerry has lately been using, insisting that a much-needed reform will cost recipients 45 percent of their checks. This is a lie, a complete, total, absurd lie, and Kerry knows it. If he is as thoughtful and complex as he pretends, he also knows that this sort of demagoguery has been pulled out of the hat time and again in debates over Social Security, keeping Congress and presidents from restructuring the program to assure its endurance without last-minute, hurtful actions. President Bush's proposal is to allow young workers to invest part of their payroll tax contributions into private accounts. Because these accounts will earn interest, and because of the miracle of compound interest, the move will actually add to the Social Security's revenue stream. Nothing will happen to the current recipients _ nothing _ and future recipients can have more hope that the system will be intact when they retire. This idea is not new in the world. Britain has done something similar, and is in better shape than European countries that have not followed suit. Other examples: Sweden, Australia and much of Latin America. The plan can work, and though it will unlikely be enough to forestall other changes in taxes or benefits, it will lessen the need to do something drastic further down the road. The issue raised by opponents of the plan is that the money put into private accounts will not be available to pay current recipients, but the Social Security surplus of the moment is not being tucked away anyplace. With the president's system, you are actually putting the money aside for Social Security payments instead of using it to pay for other programs and making believe there is something more than an IOU in the so-called trust fund. The portion that is not put into private accounts can help pay for the transition, although it is true that whatever you do, a mighty shortfall is in store in a decade or so. What then? In the third debate with Bush, Kerry said any problems could be solved as they were with the Greenspan Commission in the 1980s. What he didn't add is that the commission's solution was to hike taxes and raise the retirement age for some recipients and that about the only thing achieved was to assure there would be a need to act again later. The tax hike essentially was used to make it easier for Congress to pretend it was balancing the budget when it wasn't or to engage in more reckless deficit spending than it otherwise might. The Kerry non-plan is the danger of the moment, not the Bush plan to do something positive. | Posted By: JoAnne Posted On: Oct 15, 2004 Views: 1563 | Factual Food for Thought for Louise After reading the comment by Louise, I can understand her concern. Yet, if you cruise around the Internet, all your worries may be comforted. First, Iraq has been a safe haven for Terrorist for a very long time. Back in the 90s, under Pres. Clinton, Hussein committed various crimes against humanity. Some of which under normal circumstances would be deemed Genocide. He wiped out an entire village of 5000 people with chemical weapons(i.e. Weapons of Mass Destruction). He seemed such a threat that Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act which authorize Clinton to give up to $997 million in weapons, "defense services", and military training to opposition groups opposed to Saddam Hussein and committed to democratic values. See www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/stories/1998/12/16/transcripts/clinton.html. and also www.mojones.com/news/feature 1999/04/iraq.html. Yet, he really did nothing to stop the tyrannical nature of the "Hussein Beast". BUSH HAS!!! President Bush has spoke and also wrote a plan to win the war and this has been long documented before Kerry announced, "I have a plan, I have a plan, I have a plan, so on and so forth". -You get the picture anyway- Well, Bush's plan says: 1. The coalition transfers full sovereignty to a government of Iraqi citizens. 2. The second step is to help Iraq's new government establish stability and security. Iraq must be able to defend itself. And Iraqi security forces are taking an increased responsibility for their country's security. Nearly 100,000 fully trained and equipped Iraqi soldiers, police officers, and other security personnel are working today. And that total will rise to 125,000 by the end of this year. The Iraqi government is on track to build a force of over 200,000 security personnel by the end of next year. With the help of the American military, the training of the Iraqi army is almost halfway complete. And in Najaf and other important areas, Iraqi military forces have performed with skill and success. In Najaf, Iraqi and coalition forces effectively surrounded, isolated and engaged enemy militias. (Prime Minister Allawi and his government has announced that anyone who supports the insurgent terrorist will prosecuted along with the terrorist and that they must inform authorities of there where abouts. 3.The third step in his plan is to continue improving Iraq's infrastructure. (On television sets around the world, we see acts of violence -- yet, in most of Iraq, children are about to go back to school, parents are going back to work and new businesses are being opened. Over 100 companies are now listed on the Iraqi stock exchange. And an average of five new companies are joining each week. Electricity has been restored above pre-war levels. Telephone service has increased dramatically. More than 2,000 schools have been renovated and millions of new textbooks have been distributed.) 4. The fourth step in his plan is to enlist additional international support for Iraq's transition to democracy. (The multinational force of some 30 nations continues to help secure a free Iraq. These include Great Britain, Bulgaria, Denmark, El Salvador, Estonia, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Thailand, and Ukraine have died, besides Iraqis and Americans. The NATO Alliance is helping to train Iraqi forces.) 5. Help Iraq conduct free national elections no later than next January. An Iraqi electoral commission is now up and running and has already hired personnel. The commission began a public education campaign to inform Iraqis about the process and encourage them to become voters. United Nations electoral advisors are on the ground in Iraq, though more are needed. Prime Minister Allawi and President Bush have urged the U.N. to send sufficient personnel to help ensure the success of Iraqi elections. Remember, it is easier to write it down the "Plan" then it is to implement it but Bush did come up with a plan long before Kerry! And peculiarly enough, Kerry's plan looks a lot like President Bush's! As far as caring for our military, veterans and disabled veterans, President Bush is definitely the Militarys Commander and Chief. Since President Bush has been in office, basic pay for service members has increased by more than 20% and a 50% increase for food and housing. Childcare funding has increased by $21.5 million. THE MILITARY FAMILY TAX RELIEF ACT OF 2003 provided tax relief and other benefits to members in the military and their family. His 2005 budget will increase funding to all Veterans by $20 billion or 40% since 2001. This is more than Clinton spent his entire 8 years in office. Since 2001, President Bush included in his all his 4 budgets submitted for Dept. of VA have provided a 40% increase in veterans medical care spending. He also signed legislation providing "concurrent receipt" of both military pay and disability pay for those retired military who received combat injuries and are highly disabled, which reversed a century old law that stops military disabled from receiving dual comp. President Bush also has included 1.5 billion in his 2004 and 2005 budgets to increase outpatient services, build new hospitals and modernize or replace outdated facilities. As you can see, President Bush highly values our nations military. The military is also aware of this, since the latest polls suggest that 82% of our military plan on voting for him. When it comes to North Korea and Iran, Americans and well as the President think this is a touchy situation. They have not made any documented threats to Americans. Yet, informed in a "round about" way through the media Americans know that they do not like our beliefs or way of life. In the case of North Korea, they want to pressure us into giving them food for their masses. President Bush is trying to use talks with other countries and North Korea/Iran to try to reach some type of agreement. It does bother me that North Korea probably wouldn't be a worry if Clinton had not made a deal with them and gave them vital information to build their first Nuke. Yet, President Bush is left with this diplomatic mess and I feel comforted that President Bush is an honest man, will do what he says, has moral ethics and has a great faith in our Lord. Unlike his challenger, Kerry, who has a problem with the truth (i.e. lies) and uses statistics that can be easily proved untrue! |
| Posted By: Louise Young Posted On: Oct 15, 2004 Views: 1476 | Bush/Kerry 2004 I just wanted to respond to the comment in regards to "Democrats" blaming Bush for starting the war. I am a former Republican, recently changeing my status to Independent. And one thing that really concerns me is Bush did not directly answer the question in the second debate regarding North Korea and Iran. In the mean time things are getting worse in Iraq. I do not entirely blame Bush for the war in Iraq, but I do believe he is at fault for not having an adaquet plan to win this war. Esp with there being more threatening dangerous countries developing weapons. I am also concerned with a program I watched on disabeled soilders who do not have sufficent coverage for their injuries and who may lose their homes here in America, when we have billions upon billions to spend in Iraq. |

| Posted By: Jim Martin Posted On: Oct 10, 2004 Views: 890 | Vote for Bush if you believe lies and deception. First of all, I lived in Pittsburgh and know a lot about the Heinz Corporation. The plant is right next to downtown Pittsburgh where it employs almost all of it's people and houses it's headquarters. Not sure where you get your information, but I can tell you that it is not a company who it outsourcing from any company. George Bush has done nothing but lied since the beginning of his election. He has lied about Saddam and Iraq having links to Osama Bin Laden, he has lied about them having WMD, and lied about Saddam being a threat. He planned on invading Iraq since before he was in office, and has used the deaths of over 3000 Americans killed 9/11/01 to do this. Now, Osama Bin Laden is still alive and free, and the countries who were more of a threat than Iraq was before, North Korea, Iran, Syria, Pakistan, are even more of a threat, and are seeking/making nuclear weapons. Is our world safer? I think not! And don't forget over 200,000 Iraqies have been killed, and over 1000 American troops. What for? Oil, money, and revenge. Give me another reason why we attacked the least threatening country to America, and see why you are voting or a fraud. |
| Posted By: JoAnne Posted On: Oct 6, 2004 Views: 1010 | Kerry's Stance Against Outsourcing At the beginning of John Kerry's campaign, he made accusations that President Bush is reponsible for losing jobs. That he is reponsible for companies "outsourcing" their work and manufacturing. What Kerry failed to tell the American public is he and his wife's company is a major contibutor of this outsourcing. The following excerpt is from The Securities and Exchange Commission and tells a little bit about the Heinz Corp. and where they are located. Remember, these manufacturing plants put thousands to work each year in these countries. PART I ITEM 1. BUSINESS. H. J. Heinz Company was incorporated in Pennsylvania on July 27, 1900. In 1905, it succeeded to the business of a partnership operating under the same name which had developed from a food business founded in 1869 at Sharpsburg, Pennsylvania by Henry J. Heinz. H. J. Heinz Company and its subsidiaries (collectively, the "Company") manufacture and market an extensive line of processed food products throughout the world. The Company's principal products include ketchup, condiments and sauces, frozen food, soups, beans and pasta meals, tuna and other seafood products, infant food and other processed food products. The Company's products are manufactured and packaged to provide safe, wholesome foods for consumers, foodservice and institutional customers. Many products are prepared from recipes developed in the Company's research laboratories and experimental kitchens. Ingredients are carefully selected, washed, trimmed, inspected and passed on to modern factory kitchens where they are processed, after which the finished product is filled automatically into containers of glass, metal, plastic, paper or fiberboard which are then closed, processed, labeled and cased for market. Finished products are processed by sterilization, homogenization, chilling, freezing, pickling, drying, freeze drying, baking or extruding. Certain finished products and seasonal raw materials are aseptically packed into sterile containers after in-line sterilization. The Company manufactures and contracts for the manufacture of its products from a wide variety of raw foods. Pre-season contracts are made with farmers for a portion of raw materials such as tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, onions and some other fruits and vegetables. Dairy products, meat, sugar, spices, flour and certain other fruits and vegetables are generally purchased on the open market. Tuna is obtained through spot and term contracts directly with tuna vessel owners or their cooperatives and by brokered transactions. The following table lists the number of the Company's principal food processing factories and major trademarks by region: Factories -------------- Owned Leased Major Trademarks ----- ------ ---------------- North America 22 5 Heinz, Classico, Quality Chief, Yoshida, Jack Daniels*, Catelli, Wyler's, E-Z Squirt, Diana Sauce, Bell 'Orto, Bella Rosa, Pablum, Chef Francisco, Domani, Dianne's, Ore-Ida, Bagel Bites, Moore's, Rosetto, Weight Watchers*, Boston Market*, Smart Ones, Hot Bites, Poppers, TGI Friday's*, Delimex Europe 32 4 Heinz, Petit Navire, John West, Mare D'Oro, Mareblu, Marie Elisabeth, Orlando, Guloso, Linda McCartney*, Weight Watchers*, Farley's, Farex, Sonnen Basserman, Plasmon, Nipiol, Dieterba, Ortobuono, Frank Coopers*, Pudliszki, Go Ahead!*, Ross, Hak, Honig, De Ruijter Asia/Pacific 18 4 Heinz, Tom Piper, Wattie's, ABC, Tegel, Chef, Champ, Craig's, Bruno, Winna, Hellaby, Hamper, Farley's, Greenseas, Gourmet, Nurture, Complan, Farex Other Operating Entities 7 2 Heinz, Olivine, Wellington's, Ganave, Champs, Royal Pacific, John West -- -- 79 15 * Used under license ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -------- The Company also owns or leases office space, warehouses, distribution centers and research and other facilities throughout the world. | Posted By: JoAnne Posted On: Oct 2, 2004 Views: 1024 | Over 3 reasons to vote for President Bush I am an average American who is not wealthy. I am voting to keep President Bush in office for many reasons. Including to but not limited to his moral compass. He is a President for all seasons and all people. He gave us all 3 tax cuts. He removed the Inheritance Tax so my children don't have to pay tax on money that I have already been taxed on. Since he has been President construction spending on new homes and buildings hit its highest level ever recorded. The manufacturing sector grew for the last 16 straight months and the overall economy has grew for 35 consecutive months straight. Unemployment is 5.4% which it hasn't been at since 1948. During the past 2 years alone, average income increased 3.7% annually after inflation. By the way, the average rate of unemployment during the 1990's was 5.6%, and everyone said it was great! The air and water are cleaner now than before he came into office. The National Parks Operating Budget of $1.8 Billion is higher than any time in history. He invested $38 million for 92 improvement projects at the Grand Canyon since 2002. By the way, Kerry missed the vote on the Healthy Forest Act which would restore forests to a "healthy condition". As far a education, since 2001 elementary and secondary funding has increased by 49%. He has increase Grant funding 55%for needy undergraduates, thats $73.1 Billion, since he took office. In President Bush's 2005 Budget, he has requested an additional 12.9 billion in financial aid. Human trafficking is one of the worst offences that man can do against man. The U.N. estimates that 600,000 to 800,000 humans are moved across int'l boarders a year. According to the U.N., it is believed that it is the 3rd largest revenue soarce for organized crime. People treated as commodities. Since taking office, President Bush has given $295 million to support anti-trafficking programs in 120 countries. President Bush has also given $15 Billion to the AIDS problem in Africa. This is largest funding ever given to help this problem. As for Iraq, Saddam Hussein was in power for 34 years. If averaged out over those 34 years, Hussein put to death, on average, 4000 people per day per year for 34 years! Between 1983-1988, he killed approx. 5000 Iranians with chemical weapons. In 1998, he killed approximately 5000 civilians in a town called Halabja with chemical weapons. In March and April of 1991, he killed between 30,000 and 60,000 Iraqi's that held an rally against him. In the 1990's, Hussein drained southern Iraqs marshes. Depriving Iraqis the ability to live in this area which their ancestors lived for 1000's of years. He also participated in ethnic cleansing to Persians from Iraq to Iran. He killed numerous political oppositiions and there are documented accounts of different types of torture, killings and rapes. There is also documentation of him paying families of suicide bombers to kill people in Israel. For anyone to say this was a peaceful country, is just fooling themselves. But I bet, you wouldn't want your family living there. As for Kerry, we can only hope that he does not become President if he "plans" on fixing things with North Korea. Look how Clinton fixed things, by giving them an intricate piece of knowledge to further the nuclear ambitions. After hearing the first debate on Sept. 30, I am fearful of his plans of giving Iran "Nuclear Fuel" so we can figure out their intentions. If we find out their intentions are not in our best interest, I guess it will be too late! |
