Get the most votes

Call me old fashioned, but I think that in order to be the president of a democratic republic, the candidate with the most votes should win.

RE: Get the most votes

I whole-heartedly agree, absolutely, no exceptions. Ahh, wait a second, do you mean like for the next election or ahh, nevermind. What does concern me are these ridiculous 2-term limits - now that is an important subject...

RE: Get the most votes

Wasn't FDR elected to office three or four times? I remember he died of a headache or something after winning his, I think, fourth election.

RE: Get the most votes

WOW, you guys really know how to have fun with a poll. its suppose to be fun, and a joke to say what you think they should do for the next president. But i guess if you think that you really want it to keep on keeping on like it has in the past... whatever.

RE: Get the most votes

I remember when I lived in Washington State, a candidate could already win before the polls were closed because of the electoral votes. It makes you feel like your West-Coast vote isn't worth diddly...One might get discouraged and not even vote if they lived in Hawaii. The drama of Gore/Bush may at least make people think that their vote does count!

RE: Get the most votes

In New York, a republican vote is pretty much a waste since the state is so heavily democratic. So if you're a republican...why bother to vote? I think the electoral votes should be split within each state. If NY has 31 electoral votes total, and republican votes make up a third of all popular votes in NYS, then 20 electoral votes should go to the democrats and 10 should go to the republicans. The fact that all 31 votes go to democrats is just wrong. It would also encourage candidates to campaign in states that they already think are "in the bag".

RE: Get the most votes

NY'R, I wholeheartedly agree. With the electoral college, I DON'T feel like my vote counts. I'm in OK, which is mostly republican, so our 7 whole electoral votes most always go to the republican candidate. If we split the votes up equally, it might even give independant candidates a slight chance. When's the last time you saw one of those states on the electoral map turn up white (or whatever color the independant campaign is)? Another thing that really ****ed me off about OK and independant candidates: Ralph Nader wasn't even on the ballot for the last presidential election! What's up with that? Was it the state that was responsible for that? Did they not allow him on the ballot? If so, why? If Nader was actually elected, would he have no jurisdiction over OK? (joke) It makes no sense to me at all. It's not right that a state would limit your choices of who you're going to vote for. It would be like getting all 50 women together for the Miss America Pageant, and saying: "Ok, without any reason at all, we're only going to let 10 of you compete. We know that the rest of you worked really hard to get here, but we don't care. Screw you, ladies, you're going home."

RE: Get the most votes

Nader doesn't get onto the ballots in a lot of states. It's simply because there's not enough support for him/third-party-candidates by the general public in a lot of states. You don't automatically get onto the ballot in all 50 states just because you declare you're running for office. If you want Nader on the ballot in your state, you have to get out & get the public interested in him.
