I garland will... huh!?

Normally I would agree that the remastered vertions are better becouse of the improved graphics and soforth but in the Origins vertion of FF1 they had changed garlands immotal line to

"I garland will take you all on!"

I mean, why!?

"remastered" classics

I'll take the newest version, as long as they didn't tamper with the original goodness TOO much! But extra features are always good!
Relating to this topic in my own life--I just beat the remastered Final Fantasy II/IV (from FF Chronicles). Loved every minute of it! Never played the original though.

depends

It just depends on the quality of the orginal game. Graphics, loading time, and better sound quality, for instance the music in the early FF's sounds much better on the remastered versions

depends

As long as they just add a few things, but nothing is taken away, I should be fine with it. Beefed up graphics, minigames, and side quests are pretty much all one can add though.

It depends...

I own several remastered versions, and thankfully I've had opportunities to play the original games. If the remastered version does something about something I couldn't stand in the original, or if it adds some nifty extra thing, of course I'll like it. Other than that, I really don't dislike remastered versions (except for load times, which are jsut rotten anyway sometimes).

It really depends......

For the most part, outside of an emulator, i haven't played most of the old FFs......and despite FF5 (which was unreleased until Anthologies in US), the others held a multitude of craptacular: being named improperly, having some key names inside the game changed, and yes, even the items were switched around (biggest example: FF"2"'s Heal Item, and the renaming of Cecil's Ultimate Weapon, the almighty Ragnarok, to the Crystal Sword).

When you look at this, i prefer the remastered FFIV for the PSX, because its an easy and efficient way to get at the really good, properly translated, FFIV "HardType" (because there's so many versions, and it most closely resembles the hardtype, that's what i'm calling it @_@). If I had a choice........I dunno, i'd prefer to keep FF5 to my emulator........some of those damned bosses are WAY too friggin' hard sometimes, and it sucks to have to backtrack like 20 mins in that damned cleft of dimension because of one screw up.

FF6? hmmmm.......never played the Anthologies version, should do that sometime...

FFOrigins just plain rules. Screw the NES, hit me with all that shtick.

remastered games

It truly depends on the game itself. I would play the remastered version of FF1 because I can't find my frickin' old cartridge that my bro lost. But for chrono trigger I'll go download on an emu instead of paying 50 bucks.

Often, surprisingly, both

I've played FF I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII all on at least two (and often three) of either my NES, SNES, Playstation, or computer. Each way has advantages and disadvantages, but each time, I always expect to have a lot of fun working my way through a classic video game that I've probably completed twenty or more times. The largest point, I think, is that an individual experience these games, no matter what the system. I'll admit, there are some added features for FF I & II for Playstation that I absolutely love, but then again, I prefer the original sound track and not the updated one. There are good things and bad things about all of them, you just have to decide which you like, weigh your options, and then PLAY SOME FF!!!

FFVI Ps1

FFVI on PS1 Battle trasions are Far too long, it's whush, wait, *yawn*, 'jump' in to postions, Battle. I've mangaged to finish a cup of coffee just in the battle out of the Magitek Research Facility. I thought i might be quicker consdering My PS2 (PAL (50 frames)) has Less Frames to Draw than the US (NSTC (60 frames)).

It depends...

I would say that there are many factors to consider when judging this decision. Obviously, changing the story in a remastered edition is a no-no (such as Crystalis), but adding to the story or to the gameplay adds incentive, such as the remake of Dragon Quest III. Slowdown, which generally occurs when the producer of the reprise simply emulates the engine to work on the new system to save on development time and money, is a negative as well (Final Fantasy Anthologies anyone?).

Depends #3

Whether remastering is a good idea or not depends on several factors:
1) Was the original game lacking in some areas that can be done better now (such as graphics?)
2) Is the original game still popular the way it was?
3) Is the original game still easily accessible, or is a new version for a new system called for?

So far, all the "remastered" games I've played seemed good to me. The one thing that I don't like people to muck with is the STORY- it's one thing to give a game a new look, new options, etc. but if you change the story, it's no longer the same game.

Depends

It all depends how its done. If the producers pull it off well, then the improved graphics will make it a lot better, but if its done badly then it will often drag the original down with it to a kind of video game hell of obscurity and bad press.

depends

It basically depends in wich areas of the game have been altered or arranged, mostly the new design are quite cool and the new options make it a little more enjoyable
