Posted By: Dragonmaster Posted On: Apr 5, 2004 Views: 1597	A little of subject, but when did that stop anyone I jot to do somthing pretty cool Fri. and Sat. I valuntered with a few other students to cook for a function at Prinston Hospital. There were 7 of us and we cooked for over 300 people. I put in 7 hours on Fri. (prep day) and 16 on Sat. I got there at 10am and we were finished at 3am. thats a long day don't you think? We didnt get paid but thats ok. The cause was great. We cook for a bunch of Doctors and Lawyers and they give the National Cancer Society $100 per person. Lets see, 100x300=30,000. I helped raise $30,000 for cancer patients. Thats not to bad. Might scratch the surface on their bills. The food was great of course, anything the Mountain State University culenary team caters is great. The only problem was that the waiting staff was a bunch of local football players from another college. (Marshal I think) Think of that. 30 football players poring wine for 300 guests and 7 aprentice chefs are stuck back behind the curtain. That sucks. But anyway, I havent posted anything lately about me being a chef in training. I'm almost done with my first year and have three more to go. I have one year of cooking classes and two more years of buisness left. I'll be making the big moneys and I'll be doing what I love to do. Pasteries are what I'm training in so I get to work with cocolate and sugar all day long and get paid to do it. LOL I cant wait to get a decent job in a bakery. I can make $50,000 to $75,000 a year starting out. In West Virginia where I live thats pretty good money. I also get to use the other thing I'm good at. My swords. Opening bottles and cutting wedding cakes will be so much fun. I know everybody has seen the sword being used to open bottles on TV, but wedding cakes are also cut with them. Just look it up and you will see. (not all of them of course) Wow, I've been typing for a good 5 min. and need to stop before somebody starts bitching about my bad spelling.......ops, to late.

You know it's only impressive when people DON'T mention the work they do for charity. If you go around bragging about it people are just going to think you are a worthless tool who is tryng to play up the few good things he's done in his life just to get a piece of ass. I mean, good god man.

It's just not right in so many ways.

I just write about some charity events so that some assholes like the first 2 people who responded will hopfully help out in their own area, not to toot my horn. I'll have to comeup with a better way though. Getting people ****ed of dosent help any. Sorry if I did that. Just want people to help out. If there were people who helped me when I had cancer I wouldent be still trying to pay off the Doctors after 8 years.

I helped with a Mexican dinner Saturday night that raised money for a missionary trip to Mexico at my church. Some adults from our church are going to help improve some less fortunate peoples' homes. It was a blast! We also had a Latin dance club come and entertain us. I think we raised about $1,100.

I've been helping with local AIDS centers, elderly charities, Native American movements and more since I was a kid, and I've never felt like I needed to blast it all over the place so I could get people to lick my proverbial balls. See, if you REALLY care about others, you do it because it's a way of life, not because you are hoping to score some brownie points with web-pussy. If you had said "Hey, I did some charity work recently, which was for a great cause, and I felt great about it. I did something meaningful and I thought I would come in and ask everyone to go out and help their communities..." etc. that would have been great. But you didn't. It was more like "holy sh*t, look how fu*king wonderful I am! I did some charity work, OH, and I'm going to make a sh*tload of money!" See... it's that kind of thing people don't respond well to. See, you spent a few lines describing the charity, and paragraph after paragraph on yourself, so I don't think you are fooling anyone when you say your focus was in "trying to get people to go out and help their community." We all think it's great that you did something for charity. Volunteering is noble, but have you ever heard of bearing trials in silence and being humble before all else?

You see folkes, ass hole #1 is one of the people who think charity work should be a quiet thing that a few people do and never say anything. I think that everybody should do it and talk about it. Communication is what gets the wheels going. And web-pussy? You must be new here or you would know I'm not into that sort of thing. I admit that I should have left out the part of where I'll endup making ****loads of moneys. But I got carried away. I'm proud of what I do and I'm not going to keep it a secret. Whether I get paid or not while doing it. Cooking is what I love to do and I hate to see people like you bitch becouse you havent found somthing you like and bash on the people who have.

I just don't feel the need to bore people with details about my own life. You must not have read my post either. As I said, it's fine to encourage people to do volunteer work, but bragging (which is what you were doing) is really inappropriate. I have watched your posts for sometime, it was in this one instance I chose to say something. You may say that you aren't trying to get a piece, as I contended, but as far as I can tell, people who brag about their earnings and good works are only looking for one thing. I'm happy you found something you love, and I am glad you did something for charity, as I said. What I didn't appreciate was the bragging. The speaking more about yourself than your supposed goal of "getting people to help each other." Oh, and that's asshole, one word :0)

Missionary work is offensive to me in that the unfortunate people must accept christian indoctrination in order to receive said help. I've personally witnessed it. Christian missionaries are the vanguard of the western cultural homogenization of the world. Unimaginable amounts of human beauty and diversity have been lost to this over the past millenium. It's not volunteerism, it's not altruistic, because the missionaries believe that by doing so, they're earning afterlife points. The squalor that others live in is only meaningful in comparison to someone else's standard of living. Many 'unfortunate' people had no idea how bad they had it until missionaries showed up to tell them. And they started talking about hell, and it sure seems like a bad place. "Scary, isn't it? Well the ONLY way to avoid it is in here (*bible thrust in face*)." Fear is a great tool, isn't it? Don't get me wrong, there's a lot of suffering in the world, but none of it should have anything to do with whether you're christian or not.
