Out of the woodwork

Oh good god…

First of all, if you are going to use political terms to slam a country, particularly my country because this is what I study, I suggest that you actually know what these terms mean.

Are you lumping “Left Wing” and “Liberal” together? I find that interesting because they really rather contradict each other. Left wing typically means (depending on the context of course) that the government play a very strong role in economic matters, which indeed creates a socialist type of state.
Liberal is somewhat contradictory here as it typically refers to the importance of the individual. Liberals like very little interference from the state with regards to the market and economy; rather they just strive to have the equality of right, which means everyone has the same rights.
True there are some liberals who would like equality of opportunity, which is basically were affirmative action programs originate from.

Now, as to your direct comments.. Is Canada socialist? We are indeed more socialist than the US. Are we Left wing? We are slightly more left wing, in opinion polls Canada usually ranks about 5 points farther left than the US, however if you compare us to Europe, we would be considered very right wing. And finally, Liberal, I hate to tell you (no I don’t really) but the US is a severely liberal country, much more so than Canada. Canada, while having a liberal base, we also have a strong hold in collective rights.

And Lastly.. “Theyre country is ran by a french bastard”

Should I point out the spelling and grammatical errors? Oh sure why not. Theyre should say Their and ran should be run. Unless you are speaking about Jean Chretien (who I can only assume you are talking about as he was French) then your sentence should read “was run” as Jean is no longer our PM. However I am fairly sure that Jean’s parents were married, so he wasn’t really a bastard. Perhaps you could be clearer as to who you are referring to.

Oh and just a side note, as I’m sure many of you will call the UN crap, I wont put too much emphasis on this, but, the UN recently named Canada the 4th best country in the world to live in. USA was 8th.

RE: I wish canada was more better.

Oh and dear, you are a scoialist left wing country, and please do not then go on to say that we are the liberal ones. Anyways, please listen carefully, the US thank all the powers that be, is still more conservative then you, and let that remain, had we been as weak as canada, we would have long ago fallen into the history of great countries, rather then be one of them. How can you ever possibly say we are more liberal then you, I believe you are underlying one little fact way to strongly. The UN does'nt really matter, and of course you'll be ranked higher as a country to live in, it spends its money so blindly and in such a socialist love all way that it just ends up bieng like that. We are good for reason's that we can with no preset tone, provide a good country to live in, not by your ideas, but the ideals, of a limited capitalist market.

RE: I wish canada was more better.

The reason I say the US is more liberal than Canada is because it's true. You disagree because you only know a hybrid version of what the word means, not its true political definition. Liberalism, as I said before, is about the rights of the individual. This is, for example, why it is so easy to sue someone in the US. And again as I already mentioned, affirmative action programs.. which originated in the US are a huge part of liberalism.

You might also like to know that every year a poll is taken of the US public, and every year they rate slightly more liberal as a country. I don’t know if your government is changing, but public opinion is.

Would you like me to break down the categories for you for example, Conservatism, Liberalism, and Socialism? I can if you would like, because all 3 are different ideologies. I mean, if you are calling yourself conservative wouldn’t you like to know what that means.

And about your left wing right wing thing… what I said stands true.. typically left wing people support government involvement in life, where right wing people believe that the government should have limited involvement. This can translate onto many different scales such as Economics, Social Values, etc. For example, personally I am right wing when it comes to economics, but left wing when it comes to social values.

Anyway, hope that helps, let me know if you need anything else explained for you.

RE: I wish canada was more better.

Aurora,
I agree with Dver@. And really Aurora always playing word games to hide your deifitioncy in the subject. You very know what he meant by liberal, and how it applies. Also your statistics are off, the USA is more liberal then canada, and your proof is one survey, and affirmitave action? What a large amount of examples. Now is the USA excessively liberal becuase of suing? Of course not, thats really because of the decay rationality, not twoards a liberal attitude, but twoards one of negligence. Anyways, word games get you no where, if that was true no one would call this a democracy, but rather a representive democracy tilting twoards an off shoot of elected aristocracy. So lets not due that. And whats more liberal America or France, France of course, and who takes the fads of France in refrence to social diplomicies, why its Canada! And trust me you're not right wing in europe you're quite far to the left. Now should we make Canada more better? Who cares? All the countries are going down the tube, Canada, at least can't really do much harm.

RE: I wish canada was more better.

I am sorry sure, I’m not playing word games. I know what Dever@ meant by the word, and his definition was wrong. I am informing him of the true definition of the word.

It is also not one survey, it is a survey that is done every year and has been done for a couple of decades. And at least I give examples, you never show us where you get your information from. And I do not believe you completely comprehend what Liberal means either.

I’m not really sure where you were going with the aristocracy stuff, so I’m just going to leave it alone.. If you would like to correct your grammar, and clarify your point, I will address that.

Now you yourself said that France is more liberal than the US, and again, I’m not sure what definition you’re using, but assuming you’re using the layman’s version of the word Liberal than you just repeated exactly what I said …” however if you compare us to Europe, we would be considered very right wing”

I believe you are considering liberal as a left wing/right wing term. Again, your thoughts are not very well written, if you would like to clean it up, this would probably be easier to discuss.

And lastly I’m not sure what you meant by Canada taking France’s diplomacies. Could you explain this and give examples?
