| Posted By: Manny Posted On: Feb 4, 2006 Views: 833 | Yeah Well you do have a piont and I dont really find you all that disrespectful at all. Dont worry about that. BAD did sell as much as I said that it did and Im not that sure if we are talking on a National or International. The fact of the matter is that if you speak to anyone in music they will tell you regardless of what has happened recently with his personal life Michael Jackson is the guy you have to listen too. For some reason Dangerous does not get as much credit to its name as it should and very much deserves overall Dangerous sold more then BAD and Off the Wall. I beleive that the only difference in Dangerous from BAD is the sound its still some Pop adn RnB but the album is Michael Jackson. To me you cant remain consistant in a career as long as Michael's or Modonna's because the times has changed and the audience as grown and they have aged. HIStory is the album that dont get as much credit as it deserves either because he is sooooo ****ed off in it its the first sign of absolute anger in his career. As for Invinsible it honestly does not sound like MJ it sounds a little overly produced unlike his recordings before which were more originally MJ this album is his flop. Its considered to be his onlt flop album which is good considering that Mariah Carry has 3, and Modonna herself has 2 and Britney Spears already has 1 and her career is not even a decade old yet. But your right it is based on opinion. But as of 2006 Michael Jackson has sold over 350,000,000 and today continues to scan 15,000 in the U.S.A each week. Its undeniable that he is the best selling artist by far. |
| Posted By: Best Artist/Group of the 1990s Posted On: Jan 31, 2006 Views: 783 | Best Artist/Group of the 1990s I don't know Manny, your numbers sound a little high to me. Bad sold very well but that was the 80s. It seems like Springsteen's Born in the U.S.A. and Guns and Roses' Appetite for Destruction and a few others sold just about as well as Bad. To me though, "best" doesn't mean who sold the most anyway. I mean lots of garbage (from Britney's Baby...One More Time to Whitney Houston's 1st 2 records) has sold phenomenally and a lot of important and great records have sold poorly. The artistic decline in quality was unignorable, however, with Bad although it has a lot of moderately strong material. Nothing here even approaches the tracks off his 1st 2 records. Dangerous is even worse, especially "Black and White," and far inferior knock off to "Billie Jean." Dangerous sold well, but it was hardly the best selling record of the 1990s - I can think of a whole cluster in the mid 90s from Alanis' Jagged Little Pill to Hootie's Cracked Rear Mirror that toppled Dangerous easily. Invincible was a horrible record, I listened to it for 2 days while I was at work. It drifted off into this we-can-save-the-world abyss of hell where no decent music was allowed to escape. I tried to like it, I liked "Heaven Can Wait," not much else. And it sold moderately well. I don't know, since Thriller, it's like Michael Jackson records a moderately good record every 5 years. And his last record was utter rubbish. Madonna, on the other hand, records a new record every 2 or 3 years, and although her last record American Life wasn't well-received, that is a career first for her. And that is in the new millennium anyway, not the 1990s, which is what this post is about. I think her recordings from the 1990s are far better than Michael Jackson's overall. I hope you don't perceive me as being disrespectful, I appreciate your comments and acknowledge this is all opinion anyway. |
| Posted By: Manny Posted On: Jan 31, 2006 Views: 624 | Yeah Hey man your telling me! Well first off all I wasnt really goin to get into this you said that nothing was really amounted in Mikes career after Thriller well what do you call him having the best World Tour ever done by a Single artist ever and having the 2nd best selling album of the decade with BAD? In 1991 he came out with Dangerouse which is the most selling album of the 90's selling over 30 million today and the coming out with another Successful world tour? He was named the King of Pop in 89. In 1995 Michael cam out with the HIStory album whgich was a special double disc and is the mmost selling double disc album ever.In 1996 he became the first artist ever to ever enter on the Hot 100's single chart at #1 and at #5 at the same time. In 1997 he came out with what the Guiness book of world records have said is the longest Music recorded. He also came out with Blood on the Dance Floor witch is today the biggest slod Remix album and the new material on the album came out iis some of the best he has ever done according to critics and fans. In 2001 Michael came out with his least selling album but it also became oone of the most fast selling albums scanning over 3 million in 2 weeks. And just last month he was named the most selling single artist of all time selling over 350,000,000 world wide. Tell me thats nothing. |
| Posted By: Craig Posted On: Jan 29, 2006 Views: 524 | Best Artist/Group of the 1990s Manny, this is a poll based on unsubstantiated opinion. How else can you account for Elvis winning the 1970s grouping overwhelming to Stevie Wonder, a major American artist, who at the time was clearly in his prime? Furthermore, the votes were something utterly silly like 5% for Stevie verses 36% for Elvis. I could accept this if we were talking about all-time maybe, but the category was 1970s. Likewise, it's not even close regardless how you feel about Madonna or Michael. She has been remarkably consistent throughout her career. He, on the other hand, released 2 records of new material the whole decade, and they were not much to shout about. I like Michael Jackson, but voting him the greatest artist of the 90s is like voting Debbie Gibson the greatest teen pop star of the new millennium. I mean, I am a huge Aretha Franklin fan, own most of her records, but the glaring truth remains that her Arista work doesn't get the hero's welcome home. As such, I couldn't vote her something like "greatest soul artist of the 1980s" when she clearly was not. A lot of these people just arbitrarily cast their vote for their all-time favorite without much regard to the title of the category. Which is fine I suppose, but I love music, take it seriously and am slightly irritated when I see these kinds of crazy things and feel inspired to point them out. |
| Posted By: Manny Posted On: Jan 28, 2006 Views: 515 | Yeah right thats why Modonna has 9% |
| Posted By: Craig Posted On: Jan 26, 2006 Views: 513 | Best Artist/Group of the 1990s Michael Jackson is most certainly not the best artist of the 1990s. He released 2 studio records of new material (Dangerous and HISTORY disc 2). They were decent records but nowhere nearly as compulsively listenable as his 1st two solo records. In fact, the artistic quality of Jackson's music hasn't been much to shout about since Thriller in my opinion. By the time Madonna's Ray of Light came out, she had blown way past him, I guess she would get my vote for the 90s, at least definitely in the 90s. I would probably vote for her in the 80s now that I think about it because Jackson's Thriller was really the only truly outstanding record he did in the 1980s. Madonna's never done an entire CD as good as Off the Wall or Thriller, but her best singles are every bit as good as Michael's and she's had more of them. And, most importantly, she's been far more consistent. |
| Posted By: me Posted On: Jan 11, 2006 Views: 586 | the choices sucked I guess this really isn't a rock site. If it was there were some good bands in the 90s, And none of them were on the list. Where in the hell was nirvana??? Pearl Jam??? REM. |
