First off Mariah has one flop that was in 2001 the movie Gliter and the soundtrack. You cant really say though that is was a flop, it was released on Sept. 11, 2001, who gonna buy the album when their families are dying. Cause Glitter did just find in sales worldwide, it went to number one in 5 differnet countries and in the top 5 in 30 countries. Now she just might have another flop but not really. In 2003 Mariah released Charmbracelet which compared to her other albums besides Glitter did terrible but it really didnt do that bad cause it sold like 10 million records worldwide sure it wasnt like Daydream or music box which sold 30 million + worldwide. So I just want to say Mandy that she only had 1 flop and like sorta/kinda a second. Also, Mariah has sold way more albums then Michael Jackson, the only thing he has on her is that the thriller album is the biggest selling album of all time. I think it sold like 81 million record worldwide, but he never came close to selling that many records twice. Mariah as of 2007 has sold nearly 200 million records. With the release of her new album critics has already said that if it does well it could let Mariah Carey pass the beatles long standing record of 20 number one songs. (she is at 17). Also if it sells about 13 million records it will make Mariah Carey the biggest selling ARTIST of all time. Mariah Carey dispite all the criticsm is really a truly international artist, she is in the running for biggest arist in history and has only been in the industry 17 years. She is a child prodigy turned into a celbrity phenomenon. Writing her first number one song at the age of 4. writing all the music she sings. All these other artist in the running for the biggest selling arist of all time, the are all at least 10 years her senior. Like Mandy Michael Jackson has been selling records since he was like 8 when he was in the jackson 5 meaning hes been selling records for 50 years and he got beat but someone who has only been doing it for 17 years that is the difference between Mariah and Michael.

Okay well as of 2005 Mariah Carey was named for being the biggest selling female artist of all time. Back in 2001 Mariah was the biggest selling female arist of all time, she lost the title in 2003 to both Madonna and Celine Dion. At this point people thought that was the end of Mariah and so they counted her out. in 2005 after a few years out of the business she released the emancipation of Mimi, everyone knew that Celine would be passed but no one expected that Mimi would sell so many albums worldwide, that she would surpass Madonna too. Even though Madonna released confessions on a dance floor and sold tons of albums mariah sold more to pass her and keep the lead even with madonna's album release. As of 2007 now Mariah Carey is still the biggest selling female arist of all time. She was gonna release her new album in November of 2007, but I read somewhere that for some reason it is now being pushed to November of 2008 but who knows. At least if she releases it in November then she could be in the running for grammy's. If she releases it in November then she wont be in the running for a grammy but she will probably sell more albums during the christmas rush so whichever is better in her eyes I guess. I guess I have said enough on this topic so I guess i will leave it at that. GO MIMI

This list is obviously comprised of the best selling artists of the decade, and if you are going to have a limited number of selections it does make sense be given the artists that everyone has heard of and that as evidence by their popularity many people like, in constast to someone like Smith who has never gone platinum. I guess I just don't like much of what was really popular. ALso while many of those artists are extremely talented, some, like michael jackson, should not be on a list of 90's artists when the 80's was clearly his prime.

I don't think a single one of the artists listed would go onto my list of top 100. Elton John is great, but the 90's weren't really his prime.
