Rand / USD

Any views on wether the current rally of the Rand to 8.5 to the USD will continue - or will the Rand weaken again when interest rates come off 1% next week?

Will this close the arbitrage opportunity of Rand Interest Rate yields vs USD?

What will the trading range be?

The CME has a USDZAR contract with thin volume. What other options do I have with regard to large, short rand positions??

Rand/Dollar

Economic and Political indications warrants an exchange rate of no less than 9.75 - 12.10 Rand per US Dollar.
I have been involved in the foreign exchange markets for more than 42 years.
I believe it is just a matter of time before the Rand continues it's 3rd world status.

what gives

The rand is poised for a quick slump. Consider the current lending crisis that SA has yet to pick up on. The irresponsibility of the banking sector is largely to blame. The benefit to the exporter will be great.

Euro / ZAR

Does anyone have reasonable clue how the Rand will evolve aginst Euro long term? Selling in USD to South Africa is killing these days both ways; would enyone recommend to switch to Euro billing?

Civil War

David,
What makes you believe that South Africa is doomed to a Civil War, and what solutions would you suggest to remedy the conflict you predict?

When a Civil War comes in 2007

What will happen to the Rand in the End of 2007 when a Civil war comes, and what will happen to the economy, because some people are to stupid to look past thier own noses and think that today is where we live... rather than look to the future and be happy we have one...
Our country seems to be full of the wrong things, God used to live there in a big way, but its all gone down hill...

USDZAR

What about news of problems in South Africa, what if people were saying, if South Africa gets involved with Zimbabwe, will it strengthen the Rand, or will it cause problems for the Rand.

I beleive if they help with the removal of Mugabe, I think the rest of the world will see that South Africa is truely changing, and want to invest, at that time the rand will begin to strengthen.

rand

Does anyone know why the rand is devaluing against the dollar at this present time? Is it weakness or dollar strength? Why the weakness if this is indeed the case?

Rand Dollar

As expected, the Rand is trading at less than R7.20 to the dollar. (see previous post). One of the key factors which is holding up the Rand despite fundamentals is the 'alternative haven' or 'non-aligned' status of the Rand. There is a lot of short term non-western funds flowing into South Africa from northern neighbours and other resource owning nations.

rand/dollar$

I would like to know how any currency in any emerging market gain against the dollar when, land reform issues, high crime rate, constant political marches/rallies are at the order of the day.Maybe this uncertainties are exploited by the bigger and richer countries aiming to get hold of resources, such as China,Russia the USA ect,all suddenly publicly or more openly (in media) interested in the SADC.Are we being bought and we do not realise this???

Rand

Peter, the global market is very jittery as regards comments made by the Government. Often times foreign markets take this out of context and sell the Rand short. If you take a look at todays movement you will see that the Rand is starting to strengthen as I predicted. I expect R7.20 to the Dollar in December.
