| Posted By: Jon Posted On: Jan 14, 2009 Views: 1423 | Edits of Frozen & Don't Tell Me Aloy: Although I likewise prefer Frozen in its full-length glory, I do think in spite of that that making and putting on this compliation an edit of it was logical if only because the album version is so long (too long I imagine to give many radio DJs much incentive to play it, but even the edit it could be argued is not all that radio-friendly being that it still exceeds five minutes!). As for the outro of Don't Tell Me: I may be alone on this, but I actually rather like it myself and was glad that GHV2 didn't use the edit with it omitted. Agree by the way with those who say that new songs (or at least one new song) should have been included, and hope that this is a mistake not repeated with her next hits collection (though I'm certainly not holding my breath). |
| Posted By: Aloy Posted On: Aug 27, 2007 Views: 1904 | It's nice, but.... I really love Madonna, but... I've never seen a worse compilation job for GHV2! I'll admit I like "Drowned World" and "Bedtime Story", but they are NOT hits! They belong to best-of-Madonna albums. And, the EVITA version of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" simply sounds horrible here; the Miami Mix Edit would be all the better. Also, that "I'll Remember", "You'll See", "Rain", and "This Used To Be My Playground" made it to SOMETHING TO REMEMBER is no reason for them to be left out of GHV2. If this were a hits album, then all the biggest hits should be included, Madonna liking them or not. I will agree that Madge has a point in saying that it's a hits album, so only hits should be there. If that was the case, then there could have been 17 tracks instead of 15, so that more songs could be included. There's also the matter of edits. Yes, "Human Nature" was edited in order to prevent bleeping or an EXPLICIT label, but really, providing album versions for all the butchered songs will leave more than enough free space on the CD. Also, the songs are best heard in their original versions that the fans have come to love, but I think a Q-Sound treatment for all (IMMACULATE COLLECTION, anyone?) would also be lovely. On the other hand, what was supposed to be edited was not: "Don't Tell Me". The album version has a one-and-a-half-minute-long outro, so THAT should be cut! (I recommend the Radio Edit) The songs that should stay cut are "Beautiful Stranger" (another long outro) and "Take a Bow" (Madonna sings the chorus lines too many times in the album version). "Frozen"'s beautiful, ethereal instrumentation is mercilessly destroyed in its edit, so of all the songs, that and "Ray of Light" should be restored to their album versions. The songs are chronologized by era, but not totally chronologized. "Bedtime Story" should have come before "Argentina", "Beautiful Stranger" after all RAY OF LIGHT songs, "Take a Bow" in the BEDTIME STORIES section, and "Drowned World" in the RAY OF LIGHT songs. However, "Take a Bow" does sound lovely a closing track. :p Other than those, I love the songs here. My favorite Madonna songs that are on GHV2 are "Frozen" (my most favorite Madonna song ever!!!), "Take a Bow", "Music", and "Secret", but I don't like the musical version of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina". Here's my track listing for GHV2: 1. Deeper and Deeper / 2. This Used To Be My Playground [Long Version] / 3. Rain [Video Edit] / 4. I'll Remember / 5. Secret / 6. Human Nature [Radio Edit] / 7. You'll See / 8. Don't Cry For Me Argentina [Miami Mix Edit] / 9. You Must Love Me [Single Version] / 10. Ray of Light / 11. Frozen / 12. The Power Of Good-bye / 13. Beautiful Stranger [William Orbit Radio Edit] / 14. American Pie / 15. Music / 16. Don't Tell Me [Edit] / 17. Take a Bow [Edit] |
| Posted By: Mike Posted On: Aug 14, 2007 Views: 1908 | 2nd Greatest Hits I triple love Madonna, but feel she didn't really have much time for her second greatest hits collection! She was busy filming Swept Away and Dan Cadan wrote a great summary in the booklet..I think GHV2 would have done much better if Madonna would have put 2 Xtra trax on the record like for "The Immaculate Collection"... hopefully when she does her 3rd greatest hits...The best of the 2000s she will do that... Overall it's an excellent summary of the 1990s...I just wish more trax from "Erotica" were included... :) |

Even the basic name makes me wonder if it's not just some product that the record company wanted to release to make quick and big money on Xmas! The art work is great though!! |
