| Posted By: Okra Man Posted On: Aug 20, 2004 Views: 925 | Black Political Party Thanks for responding Thaddeus The Green party does not have people with green skin (aka Martians?) it is based on an underlying belief (they would say they are for the environment primarily, I would characterize them as a socialist/ anti business agenda). But the point is the unifying theme (whether communism or the environment) is a belief not a skin color or ethnicity. Over the long run it is OK for people of the same skin color to gravitate towards different political beliefs. Look to the inside for the character, not the outside. My perception to your idea is that your thought process has its roots in black separatism (hence the Malcom X comment). America was built on the melting-pot / merit (as opposed to aristocracy) / personal freedom type of setup. It works pretty good when compared to other countries. It does not work as well when compared to absolute perfection. It sounds like you want a Black Party so that Blacks can chose an Arthurian Style Leader, pure of heart and noble. This King (a slight pun) would right all the wrongs and put everything right. It should fit in with the Democratic Party scheme of things as this is a royalist perception. This is the top down approach. It sounds good to the naïve, but in the aftermath of the Communism, the top down approach does not produce either freedom or substantial prosperity. Except for in the minds of the proponents (ie not in the real world). One guy who lived under it described it as a form of slavery. The fore fathers of the US rejected the Arthurian concept and went with the premise that power corrupts everything and everyone. The best that could be done to counteract it simply to A) De-power the govt as much as possible and B) create competing parties and competing branches of the government. I think a Black Party would isolate the African American Community, not empower it. Political parties should be based on beliefs not skin color. I have a friend that thinks we should have more splinter political parties (like the Green party in Germany) like the Europeans do (Parliamentary system?) I always ask him: Are the Europeans more free or prosperous as a society? He never can answer that they are. But he can't stop from making the argument despite his lack of evidence Thad-man, the ball is in your court. Perhaps you could share your thoughts on the paradise that awaits us after this party of skin color is formed is formed. |
| Posted By: Thaddeus Posted On: Aug 20, 2004 Views: 910 | No No No! Okra Man..You misunderstood what I was Trying to say....I was saying that Some Hip Hop performers scream about the "conspiracy" against them when really they dont do ANYTHING WORTHY OF INVESTIGATION ..I mean come on If youre dead set on conspiring against Black Folk..You would go after an Al sharpton Or an Alan Keyes or An Walter Williams people who could actually shake things up and motivate Black youth not The "pretend activists" like pdiddy and the community minded when shes in trouble sexpot named lil kim..All clearnow?...Now bout that Black Political Party ..Why not?...The reform party is out there the green party etc etc and THEY dont expect to win the white house but they do have an influence look at what Nader accomplished in 2000 He TOOK VOTE FROM A SITTING VICE PRESIDENT ..So why not a Black political party |
| Posted By: Okra Man Posted On: Aug 19, 2004 Views: 597 | politics Thaddeus, what is this talk about an independent Black political party? Perhaps you could share your thoughts on the paradise that awaits us after this party is formed. I guess the implication is that the more melanin one has in ones skin should determine how one feels about raising taxes, committing troops in harms way or devising a better approach to education. The alternative is trying to work with others (even if they are other races) and integrate into society. That is the best approach. I recommend reading less Malcom X and more MLK and more of the Bible! BTW Nice thoughts carJock! |

| Posted By: CARJOCK1259 Posted On: Aug 19, 2004 Views: 522 | CONSERVATIVE? BROTHERS, if we are siincere in delivering our people from poverty and low wages, our greatest task should be in educating them, not being chronic complainers. We have the greatest opportunity to show them by our walk, beginning at home! |
| Posted By: carjock1259 Posted On: Aug 19, 2004 Views: 476 | conservative? If we are sincere God fearing people we would review the views of how our candidates stand on very important issues for example: PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION, SAME SEX MARRIAGE, AND WHERE WE REALLY STAND |
| Posted By: Okra Man Posted On: Aug 19, 2004 Views: 468 | economy/flat tax I am with you Jack! A good economy should tend to lift all boats some. My earlier comments on the flat tax reflect my personal opinion on the economy in general. I saw an estimate on CNBC (the business channel) one morning that I thought indicated $150 billion were spent in tax preparation each year. I know when I ran my now defunct (sob) start-up website company, tax preparation was a major expense. Thaddeus, I state my conservative leanings respectfully! This debate is being played out everywhere in the US I think. |

| Posted By: Jack Posted On: Aug 18, 2004 Views: 515 | One More Thing Jen, also, one more thing. You may not know this, but having wealthy people and wealthy corporations in our country is a very good thing. Yes, it is true. Unless you have taken the courageous step as a business owner and created employment for others, dont' complain. Has a poor person or bankrupt corporation ever offered you a job? I didn't think so. The wealthy create for profit business, which in turn, creates jobs for all of us, black, white, man, woman. Lesser taxes means more money for captital infrastructure, investments, etc, etc which all leads to high productivity, more competitive business, expansion and , hence, more jobs. These jobs create a financial personal income base. We call that rising wages. Money in your pocket and mine. If you look into history, no civilization has ever taxed itself into prosperity. |
| Posted By: Jack Posted On: Aug 18, 2004 Views: 509 | Ignorance Wow, do you believe anything that the media puts in front of you? If you actually read any of the proposals, you would see a slew of exemptions for the poor. In most cases, elimination of the tax altogther. If you made 10k as you stated, right now under the current system you would pay 10% tax after your deduction. However, under the flat tax model, you would be paying NO federal tax. So pls do you reseach before making comments and trying to influence others with your ignorance. Read the entire proposals. Most rich people hide most of their income in shelters today, so don't give us that pathetic and dated argument of the rich escaping taxes. The flat tax would nail them straight-up. |
| Posted By: Jen Posted On: Aug 18, 2004 Views: 468 | Flat tax -- Food for thought Flat tax makes no sense and isnt fair. Falt tax of $3,000/yr. I make $60,000 - than I only pay 3% tax I make $600,000 - then I only pay 0.5% tax I make $10,000 - then I pay 30% tax,. Flat tax of 25% I make $600,000 - $150,000 tax I make $60,000 - $15,000 tax I make $10,000 - I pay $2,500 tax $2,500 may not seem much at first, but you try living on $834 a month before tax, or $626 After tax, A MONTH!! And then we will see how much a flat tax would benefit you. Fairness hardly ever equals easiness. Just look at the civil rights movement, womans rights and anything else that we deal with. So stop being selfish and think of those less fortunate. |
| Posted By: Iceprincess Posted On: Aug 16, 2004 Views: 543 | Taxes April 15 or August 16 My taxes were DONE by April 15th. It isn't a big deal you just have to be mindful of your time and priorities. Spreaking of PRIORITIES: PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO VOTE IN NOVEMBER. IF YOU DON'T VOTE DON'T COMPLAIN. Princess :)!! |
| Posted By: Nicole Posted On: Aug 16, 2004 Views: 539 | Taxes Done For Free There are places that do your taxes for free. You just have to do your research. For example, most of the IRS buildings will do it for free, providing you get to them by a certain time in the day. There are also new programs that are in neighborhoods, such as 125th. Street, the Bronx and Brooklyn that will file your taxes, from 9:00am to 6:00pm. Monday through Friday, at no cost to you, and they also register low income families for food stamps, if you need them. This takes place all in one shot! |
